Fun, enjoyable adventure. One of Dcs better ones.
29 October 2019
It's fun, funy, light sometimes, heavy others. It does not lose it's touch ,knows what kind of a film It is, uperherosuperhero version of big. It runs with this to good effect. The performance are all good. Only one lacking is the villain, whom is as dull as dishwasher. The rest diliver, espically to two lead kids. The tone does suffer in writing a bit to, mostly seen in a highly out of place dark moment involving demons killing workers in an office editied like out of a horror film. Overalll, Not great, not terrible, still much above typical dc fare.

Remember, strength means no emotion.
23 October 2019
Not good. One of my least favorite in the MCU so far. The boring, bland story, hyping itself on 90s nostalgia, intending attempts at emotion and heart but making the lead actress remain stoic and wodden despite the story trying to be about her overcoming a need to hide. The story is underwhelming, no new beats or takes, just standard jumping between, hey you know this character is important right, we need you two, more goddam flashbacks. The actors are all talented but you won't know that watching this movie. Even Slj bored me here, and the reason he wears the eye patch, just terrible. As for Larson, she tries and is funny and their is one scene that is pretty effective emtioanlity wise, other than thast, another stoic badass performance, which I don't blame her for, its been a sick trend with Hollywood writers for a while now. Overall not good, one of the few mcu films that are straight-up bad.

Not needed but delivering.
11 October 2019
It's definatley good, worth the wait and splendidly crafted . Not all together a needed film, but what it gives it gives hard. We see Jessies own sense of bittersweet conclusion as he fights off the final lasting demons from Breaking Bad and goes of In his own light. It's delivered withe same sense of anxiety, tension, and fast smooth editing that Giligan masters, brought up to a cinematic stature. Aaron Paul is great as ever, delivering a performance that is heartbreaking with the characters and then fleashed out in nuace as he breaks bad in his own way. It all delivers well and is a damn good watch. A nice cap off to who may have been the only good in a cast of grey.

Makes a great character study and executes a brilliant film.
5 October 2019
Not only is this a great comic book movie, it's a great movie, by all standards. One that would come in the 70s , looking like it, acting like it, by the biggest hits of it's cinematic output. This is not a pleasant movie to sit through. It depicts a persons slip from sanity in a way that makes you go from fearing for him to those who oppose him. Not in a way the celebrates these vile acts he commits. It knows the tragedy of the character, and uses it to create a genuinely impactful character study and form a cationary tale around it.

Though it was questioned rather comedy director Todd Phillips would be able to bring the chops needed for such a story. Such worries are moot, once the brutal grittyness, the nastyness the visaeral execution of these things play out. It's well as well, moving in a slow burn to bursts, akin to the characters own mind, before it snaps at the end.

Carrying this all is Phaqin Penoix, who is meanicing, unnerving, yet with a dose of fun and sympathy. He's creepy to watch and owns every scene, carrying the whole film as it's star. A film that is deserving of praise , makes you think, creates uncomfortable questions, and executes it's intentions valiantly. This one is a keeper every film buff should see.

Though Dark and unsettling. Without a needed drive, it's a disappointment.
2 October 2019
This film is indeed an unpleasant, unsettling expieriance. With that , does come a lot of baggage, represented by a overdose of boring, slow emptyness that is almost completely devoid of life. The actors here, all of , are doing a damn fine job. This film is consistently more effective in tone than the oringal. A flawed classic covered in cheese, it needed an update. This one has that more cinematic fell to boot. It has the tones, the cinematography, even the cat is creepier here. All of this just can't do to much, in a script thet gives not a whole lot more story and leaves out the heart, as dark as it got, theirs nothing to you endear to the victims of the darkness. It's really a solid mixed bag.

Fiction is the truth inside the lie.
20 September 2019
Life is boring, we all know that it's is the very reason most flock to the realm of fiction, why stories exist. To escape, to break through the boredom, and find the realm of journey underneath. This is an old statement, all know it by now. What is perhaps less known is that the stories often tell truths? They exaggerate, sure, but they give the feeling of life, brought up more, enhanced, to make entertaining.

This whole movie bases itself around not that idea alone. It makes a lesson from it. Stating within that if you listen to these stories you'll realize the truth in them, what they meant to the subject, how they have a power that can last forever, based on that truth.

It says about how feelings are misplaced, Repackaged, told out of order to serve these means. What is a myth, what is the fact? What is a metaphor, are these all literal? These stories, can they help to understand in depth what mundane reality can't touch. Throughout the story of Mcgergors character, we see that yes indeed it does, and can last forever. Movies like this are teaching good morals, executing them well, and getting to that sentimental side, and reminding of the realness within, that makes a great juxtaposition and a brilliant movie.

Not for everyone, yet everyone should see it.
15 August 2019
This film is all the way designed to get under thin skins and piss everyone off. For me, that is what makes it work so well and why I have to sing its praises here. The characters are, yet likable. The satire is down and dirty, yet subtle. Digs at hypocritical corporations sink in well. Laughs van is had nor not. The important thing is it gives an unaplotgic. Uncorfstble looks at these things. At big tobacco and the people who try and stop them. At consumer culture, the dumb nature of humans. It's honest, that honesty steps just to the fire, but never covers itself in its own glory. So, ironically you can respect it.

Sublime, yet slow.
13 August 2019
It's not very original. The story moved kinda slow. What it gets right is the pure anxiety of the lunches, of the dangers of the situation plummeting into outer space. It's also quite beautiful, stunning, the moon scenes are literally out of this world in all senses. In the end, it could have stood to be a bit more compelling. The directing, the acting, it all pulls in when it should.

Another moving southern blues mobile.
12 August 2019
A great, deep, richly told narrative set in the south. Gonna have to check out more of what this done, cause his work here is quite new and impressive to watch. He captures blues culture quite realistically. This film is not quite down and dirty, yet still, the rebel atmosphere is all over the place.

The character work as well, unpredictable, deep. We have Christine Ricci in a very as a sort of nymphomaniac. Someone who can't seem to turn off those impulses and overtake her. Jackson plays aging down on his luck blues singer. He finds her and sets to clearing her of her wicked ways. Yet he is not perfect either. He has a falling marriage, yet keeps to the right.

The way all of these things leap in and out of each other is right where it needs to most all the time. The acting as well, all-around good. Chemistry solid, Rccis southern accent, unrecognizable, wonderfully vulnerable. Of course, simply have to address Jacksons singing voice, so damn good. I'd listen to a whole album with it.

In the end, this not quite a love story, not quite a music film. It is about failed love, human wickedness, and using the sounds of the south to get back to those things respectively. It may not be perfect, the pacing could use some work, also a few awkward moments If attempted comedy, yet it still works great for all the others. If you go for these sort f stories, this may not go in your shelf with the best of them. Still, it may fall in somewhere down the line.

A great character drama with relevant commentary that is working on so many levels.
9 August 2019
I can't speak to this film excellence enough. The 50s we're seen by many as a simpler time, a calmer relaxed frame of living. At least, that is the way we would view is based on our may cheesy sitcoms we had during it. This film sort of critique that when it literally showcases bringing color to black and white and black and white ideology.

We see this small ideal town get .differnces introduced. We see them explore life and it's opportunities. This leads to the actual color being brought in, the town coming to life. The commentary is never too obvious, it is uplifting, soft, sentimental when it needs to be, gives you wonder when it should. The wonder of change. Even going as far as the danger of reaction to, all the way down to allegories of racism, which the decade often ignored, really work.

From that, it is also a damn generous film to look sat. The way they combine the with the black and white, creating that visual juxtaposition, is so cool to see. Also, perform as interact with it just as well as they should.

In the end, what these films give is a literal look at embracing change. Not living in a bubble of security, it takes critical aim at our often reaction to such things, our conservative need, it shows how this can be a problem. Yet it never goes too far with it' .polotics. It also knows to be an uplifting character drama, one hopefully all can enjoy.

An interesting experiment, an okay thriller.
8 August 2019
Its interesting to see where the Coens started. Even in this erikest effor, you can really see how they established as a new, unique filmaking force, that still rings true today of course. Its more f a tight, compact thriller here. Lots of lingering shots, sequences , nail biting suspense. Its told in a brilliant way, keeping things dark and mysterious. The acting also works very well with all of this.

The only real problem here is not everything stand out as much as being truly powerful and special. Its a unique take on a genre. Done in a way that is particularly important in establishing these new filmmakers. It does, nonetheless, just exist as that. A gente thriller, given a slight twist. Its more of experiment, an introduction, than it's own great thing. This happens a lot with even the greatest filmmakers earliest efforts.

Crazy, it knows it and works because odd it. Rami trilogy ends with a bang.
7 August 2019
This movie is just but, that's all can say. 81 minutes of our, high energized insanity. It's confused about itself. Does it want to be a midlevel picture, a goofy comedy, a gore splashed horror fright fest? These are, but here I can't really complain. It all so unapologetically insane, and it knows it. From that, I help but want more and more. The first two films in this series kind of get this too. Yet here it's much more personified.

Rami is a quite interesting filmmaker. His directing techniques are very low quality, that too adds to the charm. of dutch angles and clever camera movements. He really knows how to make a scene move and move fast. Of course, we need to have a talk about the one and only Bruce Campbell. He carries the film quite naturally. He is at his most funny and schematic of the whole series here. He makes me laugh and get behind him when he makes commentary on the of whatever situation he finds himself in, just that good constantly with him.

In the end, this is a short film, it goes by in a snap, and I enjoyed every minute. If your a horror fan, and want one that serves as a great one of those and a great fun time, this is the movie possibly.

Deadwood: The Movie (2019 TV Movie)

A great sendoff.
6 August 2019
Loved it. It had the grand slow burn, refined, yet savage storytelling the series had. All the actors are once again telling the show, Mcshane chief of all. It has a more coherent plot, more of a quicker pace, which is a problem hadf with the series, at times I felt it dragged a little to far. Nonetheless, this story is unique. The feel of the Deadwood camp makes it feel like something right out of another universe of it's own creation. The writing is rich, the way we see the current inner workings, still strong. It's a great sendoff to a great work of art.

De Plamas rock opera is both funny and dark.
1 August 2019
A damn good blend of horror and comedy. We get a dose of homage paid to the classic rock n roll styles of the seventies. De Palma takes that, adds a dose of hitching suspense, and gives us a brilliant reminiscing of Gaston's original story. All the performances are great. Funny when it needs to be, scar, suspenseful, dramatic. Here also is a sense of music, a great list of killer songs, terrific soundtrack. its pretty seamless, a delight to watch, also has a bit of a reputation as an unknown, underrated classic, all the reason to see it more and give it the attention it needs.

Airplane! (1980)

An all in comedy, simple, and reaches all the subgenres.
31 July 2019
I must say I thoroughly enjoyed this film and found myself laughing fairly frequently. Its premise is rather simple. We basically have Transamerica airline flights that is Rife with troubles and needs to be landed. Absurdly simple and even downright silly. What makes it work is its wide a range of Comedy. Slapstick, dry wit, meta humor, dark humor, are all in here somewhere and executed exceedingly well. It's as good as it gets in each respective way and does get a laugh every time they show up. It also never goes too far with its laughs doesn't go into Adam Sandler happy Madison variety it keeps things more subdued more Elegance almost and that makes the film a lot more watchable in a lot more enjoyable, which also is complemented by its rather short runtime of an hour and 20 so minutes.

It fundamentally works because it takes a simple premise and knows how to run with it as far and fast as it can with what it has, that being is humor. This is what makes this a truly classic Landmark comedy comic, a uses all the satire all the commentary, get you in with the laughs, lets you move right on to the next joke, and your back watching again until the end which is not too far away. It's honestly what really truly makes for great comedy oh, and just an all-around great movie, no reasons why you shouldn't see it if your a fan of any of those things.

Blow Out (1981)
8/10
Classic De Palma Thriller.
30 July 2019
Very solid thriller. Well made, mostly well-acted, and has a ton of scenes that are well drawn out with the suspense and will leave many on the edge of their seats.

The story here is fairly interesting. We have Travolta, who plays a sound effects mixer for several low b-grade horror films. That right there is a point of positivity I want to make sure and the address right out of the gate. This gives us a nice Peak behind the curtain to that very thing which is sound mixing we get to see how they come up with the various sound effects they use when they have to actually go out and about in the scenery and in nature and outside to just wait for the right sound so they can record them and all the other various processes of putting all these various effects together and then compiling them into the finished product of the film. That, as someone who likes to study film and figure out all the ins and outs and all the nooks and crannies and all the little cogs in the well-oiled machine really appreciated getting to see all those details and it really sort of instantly intrigued me to this story as well as what's interesting about what happens after that. What happens after that is when he's on one of these excavations outside he Witnesses a car accident he goes in jumps in a creek holds a lady out and he later finds out once he's taking her to the hospital that this was, in fact, a sort of an assassination involving a candidate for State Governor.

From there we get all sorts of plot progression, suspense, intrigued and all that good stuff that usually accompanies this kind of picture . As from that, I can't really say that there's anything in this particular movie that really makes it stand out. That's a little bit of a problem because that is what I seek as an intellectual and as a film fan, I appreciate movies that have something new wants and you need to say, a little dose of variety, that's of course only my preference. I enjoyed this film a lot for what it was which is also something I like to try to do sometimes when I don't get that variety. Brian De Palma is, of course, a very classic very skilled filmmaker ,he knows how to direct suspense and draw it out. There are scenes in this movie that are really hard to watch because of how drawn out, intensely suspenseful and maybe even downright scary They get. Then there's the ending which actually is something I have never seen before in this kind of a movie and it is so disturbing and almost just utterly just tragic it really smacks you right in the face almost it's really Tuff.

The acting also is pretty good on Travolta's parts. His co-star Nancy Allen is kind of annoying kind of obnoxious and overly cutesy in this role, she just didn't work for me I kind of found myself almost cringing whenever she came on screen, however, you kind of see the kind of romantic Blossom between her and Travolta's character and it is sad given the answer.

So, all in all, this is a solid, suspenseful, well acted, if a bit familiar Thriller by a competent filmmaker to deliver it well and make it something truly watchable and almost classic status. Would recommend if you are a fan of this genre and of De Palma, it has a place in the line up based on the ending alone.

Super (I) (2010)

Dark, nearly tasteless humor for the super hero genre.
29 July 2019
It must be said that this film is not for everyone. It is very similar to kick ass in that it is a comedic, cynical look at Super Hero films and comics. It is also akin to that film in that it is extremely violent. However, where this one is different is that it is only suted to those who have a twisted, dark sense of humor.

We get jokes made on things that nobody finds funny. We get extremely graphic and even flat out disgusting imagery. It may make some sick and some cringe. It is well executed and brilliantly acted though, so if you are the target audience I referred to, you will get a lot out of it and likely find it damn good despite a cliched story of finding love and doing what's right, like I did.

A true blessing.
26 July 2019
Williams seemed like such an interesting and great person. He really seemed to want to make people laugh. He made a carrier out of it and was just lightning in a bottle on stage. His mind went faster than most, and thus his jokes and impressions that he used in his stand up would keep going and going. He also had an illustrious film career.

The sadder part of his story shows that he was a shy indudualnadn quite sad. What happened with him and his death is tragic. People like him are a blessing to this world. They fill the place with so much light and life. This doc makes me really see who he was as a person and as an artist. I love both.

Excalibur (1981)

Classic, rich fantasy.
25 July 2019
Rich, beautiful, poetic, operatic fantasy epic retelling of the Arthur legend. That is how I can basically describe this film. I will admit that I have not really done to much research into the history here, I will have to judge it only as a film. That works out fine for me as it is good, damn good.

If you usually go for these hardcore mid evil fantasy stories of sword and sorcery like I do, you will get a lot out of this. It's, epic, full of sword fights and magic and imaginative storytelling. What truly makes this one work so well is how it is told, how it follows the character of Arthur from a baby till an old man. It shows the reign over his kingdom, all the downfalls, and all the betrayals. dark when it needs to be, romantic when it needs to be. It rounds itself out well by the end and is highly respectable.

The actors as well, invoke all the power that is needed to portray these characters. In the end, it really is a truly powerful film itself. Might be one of the best of one of the best genres in entertainment.

A well rounded spoof on buddy cop films.
24 July 2019
Halrious movie. The comedic buddy cop banter between Ferrel and Whalberg is what makes it. This is not a traditional buddy cop film, but more of a sort of parody. It work from that direction both with cop films and life as a cop all together. The premise, of two star dectives, who are so over the top in their personas as to be basic super heroes, due by their own ego, a sort of criticism on such character, who would ordinarily be the lead stars in such films.

Alas, they are not. Are two leads are the often forgotten accontants whom handle a more boring, tedious part of the job that is unwanted by everyone else their pretty much. This film follows a case the pick up to make their big break. That is the just of the story, which is the weakest aspect of this film here, yet not enough to kill it. Whalberg and Feral are just way to much fun for that. Feerel is dorky and awkward, almost chillike in his naviety, and Whalberg is straight up pissed. The way they work this into the situations they come into is never dull. Apart from that, they have great chemistry and it seems they deserve other.

We also get what we usually get from director Adam Mckay, a certain full knowledge of how crazy things get. This movie is dumb, and knows it's dumb, and knows when to comment and how dumb it is and just goes with itself. It comments on flaws, like the unreality of the effects of explosions, yet still has them.

It may be lacking in story, yet it is still funny when it needs to be and action-packed and insane when it needs to be. It a well rounded good time.

Fear (1996)

Well acted lifetime.
23 July 2019
It ks kind of a by the numbers thriller. Ordinarily, I would give such a film a hard pass, as I like most films I watch to have something unique and creative the bring, or, at the very least, have a clever twist, if and when, they decide to portray a cliched plot or story.

Something about this one I just found likeable and highly enjoyable. Starting from the premise, it is pure lifetime. Girl meets mysterious boy, dad is worrisome of boys, girl falls in love, eventually find out boy is insane and dangerous, tried to break it off, things go from bad to worse.

This time around their is something just really liked here. It must be the actors as all do a really good job. Most of all Whallberg, who really nails all the mysterious, menaces, and insanity this character needs. Witherspoon also, great, venerable. We are seeing these actors in very early roles and that only adds to their talents, cause they are as great as usual.

The music is also incredible, it truly elevates the movie. The story moves fast and ends in a chaotic and satisfying climax. It is definitely nothing new. It still never failed to entertain. It is, for me, anyway, a true guilty pleasure.

Good message, pretty dumb comedy.
22 July 2019
Their are moments in this movie that no doubt I found annoying and cringe. Most of this can be applied to the fact that most of the humor is very crude and juvenile. Loads of fart jokes. Also the many characters Murphy played are all insufferable not funny in the slightest. They do not exist beyond their flat 1 note punchline. Here's the grandma, the loud mouthed mother, the creepy uncle. It all just went way to far.

The underlying theme of true self lying on the inside, of looking past outer layers, is a good one. I loved how the skinny persona is the one who acts disgusting and abrasive and rude, and the larger, true personsa of Klump is a nice, intelligent guy. That is a pure, good juxtaposition that I loved here. It does get lost a little in a mostly forgetablle, honry comedy.

True Grit (2010)
5/10
Unnesseary.
19 July 2019
Not really a necessary remake. Sure it is done super well. Bridges is a damn great actor, and he is good as Cogburn, I won't compare him to Wayne Oscar-winning original role cause that would be unfair. Also, Bridges pretty much copies it verbatim, so there is nothing to talk about with that. This, alas is my big problem with this movie. It has absolutely no reason to exist. It added nothing, it good the same story in the exact same way. The only thing that is different is the ending, which is a touch bleaker, while to original was typical ride off into the sunset western. However, one change does not make a movie full of the same magically necessary.

This one was written and directed by the Coen Bros. Such unique, groundbreaking talent they are, you will see none of their personas as filmmakers here. None of their quirkiness is here. This could have been made by anybody. I am coming off as a bit harsh here and am really not trying to. This is actually not a bad movie at all from a technical standpoint. The acting is all great. Matt Damon is a little more grizzled here, and the young Hailee Steinfeld is particularly memorable as Matty, maybe even more brutal than her original counterpart. All the music and cinematography is stunning. The old west is captured very well. It is perfectly watchable and entertaining. A movie, though, almost more than anything, needs to have a reason to exist, needs to have something to bring to the table, to truly work in my eyes, and this one does none of these things, so, honestly, cannot really recommend it. Just watch the original. Its a landmark western. This is an unneeded clone.

Needs a solid tone, buts it very well done.
18 July 2019
I liked this movie a hell of a lot. It's epic. The cast is brilliant. It has a ton of dark, twisted, suspense-filled moments of tension, most of which are unbearable in how drawn out they are. The story is complex. Plots move ina and out of each other and are played out steadily and. Engagingly. The only parts of it I am a little critical on is length. I honestly feel this movie is far too long and does throw a bit to much into it. Some scenes felt endlessly tacked on. It also is not the most consistent in tone. It is both a suspense film and an attempt at dark comedy. None of which go together. It even tries to be a serious drama at times, and possibly even an outright horror movie.

None of these things are bad on their own. In fact, most of them are done quite well. However, as a film all together, they stand out. Its a shame that these negatives are here and are so noticeable, cause this is a damn good movie otherwise, one I would highly recommend.

Cliche, slow, but still watchable and full of suspense.
17 July 2019
It's pretty good. Nice suspense, and a well-told story. It is a bit predictable at times, there are a few jumps scares, and you better believe that they are as annoying here. The acti g is pretty good. Pheifer is great as usual, has to portrayal a lot of fear and potential I sanity and nails it. Ford is a bit wooden, yet still pulls tough in the right moments. The suspense is what makes this though, it has genuine nail-biting scenes, Zemeckis has easily drawn some inspiration from Hitchcock. This is especially true in a certain bath scene.

The problems I have come down to writing. I feel this one could havbenefitteded from some more tighter pacing' sts also not very or original, with ghost story cliches going all the way to rigid board. These problems really add up in the long run. What is good is still good and this is a solid movie to watch, just don't expect to be blown out of the water, he he, I made a pun.
