From Here to Eternity (1953)
Where are the other officers?
A good movie, but I have a question where I really ought to read the book to see if it gets answered there. The question is this: in the film, in 'G' company, we only see the Commanding Officer,, Captain Dana 'Dynamite' Holmes. A rifle company in those days was composed of three rifle platoons, each led by a second lieutenant, and possibly a heavy weapons platoon (armed with the company's machine guns, mortars, and possibly 'bazooka' recoilless rocket launchers) also led by a second lieutenant. There would also be a first Lieutenant that would be the company's executive officer. Where are these officers, or do they have no roles in the story?
That Hamilton Woman (1941)
Good job with the history
I was pleased to see that this was one of eight films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Special Effects for 1942. When one thinks 'Special Effects', one usually thinks of sci-fi vehicles like '2001: A Space Odyssey' or fantasy franchises like 'Harry Potter'. I thought that, given the state of special effects in 1941, the crew for this film did a fine job of re-creating the Battle of Trafalgar. I haven't read the accounts of that engagement too closely, but from what I do know, they seem to have had the events right as well, especially the tactics that Nelson used and the circumstances of his death. But most important, you believed you were seeing a pitched naval battle of that era on which the fates of two empires, the British and the French, were staked.
Seeing this film ot me more interested in Nelson's career and his actual affair with 'That Hamilton Woman'. Having only read what's available in Wikipedia, I recommend to all buffs of the history of that time to see this film, then research the background material and judge for themselves.
