Breaking Bad (2008)
Words Can't Describe
This show was my first foray into a crime drama show after being a mostly sitcom animation fan. And I am genuinely scared because of the bar it has set in comparison to other stuff I'm interested in like The Sopranos.
The show follows a mild mannered chemistry teacher named Walter White(Bryan Cranston) as he's diagnosed with Stage 3 Lung Cancer. To pay for his treatments and not leave his family with a mountain of debt the size of Everest, he allies himself with a former student named Jesse Pinkman(Aaron Paul) to cook Crystal Meth.
The story, on paper, sounds absolutely genius. And it really does a good job at making you root for Walter in the beginning, but slowly begin to despise him by the end. It's an incredible character study that shows the decline of someone's humanity when you get involved in this kind of life. On the flip side, you have Jesse whose arc is kind of the reverse of Walt's. He's already involved in the life and isn't really a good person, but he slowly starts to realize who he hurts and actually tries to get out of it.
The characters are all written, directed, and acted beautifully! And the show ends on a perfect, but still rather somber note. The show always follows through on the sacrifices it sets up.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023)
Truly a SUPER Mario Bros. Movie
The short version of this review is that it's just about everything a Mario film could be. The long version? Read the review to find out.
I'll start with the story. It's a very simple plot. Mario & Luigi fall into the Mushroom Kingdom. Luigi is captured by Bowser and Mario has to rescue him. What you saw in the trailers for this film is exactly what you get. Something simple. Despite this, the film still has depth to it. I'd say a lot of the depth comes from the chemistry between Mario & Luigi as well as Mario's clear growing feelings for Peach. If you're going into this expecting it to be the next Godfather or LEGO Movie. Don't. Temper your expectations. This does not have an Oscar worthy plot. But that is a point for the film simply because most mainline Mario games had never been heavy on the plot.
Next, we'll talk about the most controversial aspect. The casting. I'll start with Chris Pratt. As somebody who was vehemently defending him leading up to the film, I was genuinely surprised by his performance. His take on Mario is really really good. Keep in mind. This is NOT the Charles Martinet version of Mario. And it doesn't try to be. This is another version of Mario. Like Lou Albano or Walker Boone. And it works really well for the film. At worst, most people will view his performance as "okay." At best, most people will view his performance as "really good." But it is not bad. He is not dull in the slightest in the film. The trailers did not do him justice.
Now the rest of the cast as short bullet points since I don't want the characters to be too bloated.
Charlie Day as Luigi: He sounded really good. He was always perfect casting for Luigi and this movie really reaffirms that.
Anya-Taylor Joy as Princess Peach: She sounded really good as well. A lot of people were concerned about how Peach being an action hero would take away from her soft and kindred personality. But that is absolutely still intact. It's just another side of her we've only ever seen in spin-offs.
Jack Black as Bowser: Best cast member in the film. Sometimes he'll slip into sounding like Jack Black, but that does not affect his performance in the slightest. He still sounds incredible and is clearly eating this role up.
Keegan-Michael Key as Toad: He sounded really good. The voice is definitely a Toad voice, but it works for a movie. Nobody is gonna wanna listen to the ear stabber that video game Toad is for an hour and half.
Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek: As somebody who's known for doing really deep voices usually, this performance as Kamek is literally pitch perfect. What little dialogue he has is actually incredible and I couldn't think of a better voice for Kamek in this film.
Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong: Seth Rogen is good in this film. I think his voice actually really suits Donkey Kong, but I do believe that some people will be put off by the fact that this is just Seth Rogen.
Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong: If I had to choose a weak link in the cast, it is Fred Armisen. He's not bad, but he could be much better.
Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike: He wasn't in the movie much, but his voice fits Spike really well for the take they go for in this film.
All the supporting actors also do really well for what they're given and Charles Martinet's Cameos in the film are just beautiful and an exciting thing to hear.
Objective Broad Conclusion: This film is really a fun family movie. Not everyone is gonna be as into this film as Mario fans will be. But this is still a rather fun time if you're not a Mario fan. 7/10
Objective Mario Fan Conclusion: From a video game movie adaptation standpoint, this has set a standard for what they should be. This was a really really good film that is almost everything a Mario Movie should be. Some Mario fans will be put off by Chris Pratt. But at worst, his performance is passable. 8/10
Subjective Personal Conclusion: This film is perfect in almost every sense of the word and is my all time favorite film. 10/10.
An Ling Yu Shi Di Qi (2017)
Um...
Well... where to start with this show. It's better than the anime, but nowhere NEAR as good as the original franchise. I applaud the fact that some of the writers from the original TV show came and worked on this show. But it doesn't help the fact that the first episode is pretty much a rehash of the first movie. The animation has a very Chinese feel to it. While a lot of people would disagree with me on this, I believe the animation and atmosphere can be a little pretty at times. It'll NEVER be as pretty as the original cartoon, for sure. But the animation is better here than the anime because the animation style of anime doesn't fit with Lilo and Stitch. Stitch and Ai do have a slightly tender relationship, but the problems of their relationship lies in the fact that Ai only knew Stitch for a few hours before she and her sister grew used to him whereas Lilo and Nani had three days to get used to him. Ben Diskin and Jess Winfield from the Stitch anime reprise their roles as Stitch and Jumba in this show and their impressions of the source material has gotten a little better since the anime. Overall, this show is the DEFINITION of a mixed bag for me. If you enjoyed the original show, then just have a little leap at this show. You'll either get a little enjoyment out of it like me, or you'll hate it with all your being, like most people. Oh, and spoilers on 'cause I'm paranoid.
Trollhunters (2016)
Haven't Been This Hooked On a Series Since Avatar: TLA!
I have NOT been this hooked on a series since Avatar The Last Airbender! This series is fantastic! There's so much to go over that I don't even know where to start! I'll go like this: 1. The Story 2. The Characters 3. The Villain(s) 4. Overall Thought
1. The Story: The Story goes like this: a boy named Jim finds an amulet that, if he says this incantation(For the glory of Merlin, daylight is mine to command), he'll turn into the Trollhunter. The Trollhunter is tasked with protecting the good trolls of Trollmarket located beneath a town called Arcadia and the citizens of Arcadia from the Villains(which I'll get into later).
2. The Characters: I'll obviously start off with our main protagonist; Jim Lake Jr. One of the best parts of the series, is that he is flawed. There are moments when I feel sorry for him, when I'm frustrated at him, and when I think he can do better with something. That's ALWAYS an admirable trait for a character. Being flawed. Moving on to my favorite character(who is not Jim), we have Claire Nuñez. She is Jim's love interest and a very amazing character. There will be moments with her and Jim where I just squeal from their cuteness together. And there are moments when I tear up due to her losing her brother to the Villains to turn into a changeling(which I'll get into later). There is my third favorite character(second not counting Jim), Tobias Domzalski(Toby for short). He's the obvious comic relief character and I haven't seen a comic relief character this funny since Sokka from Avatar: TLA! He is absolutely hilarious! But like Sokka, there are his serious moments. Like when he's saying goodbye to a friend(I won't spoil what happens). Then there is Blinky, one of the first trolls you meet. He's a fine character. He's pretty funny and there's not much else to say other than he's brilliant and has good character traits like helping Jim, Claire, and Toby find Claire's baby brother. Then we have AAARRRGGHH. I'm not kidding. That's his name. He's like the second comic relief character and Toby's 'wingman.'
3. The Villain(s): The villain(s) are so well written! The first villain you see(and one of the first characters, is Bular. He looks like a giant troll Minotaur. He's got one of the coolest voices I've ever heard! Voiced by Ron Perlman, the voice of Sinestro from the CGI animated Green Lantern series, voice of the Satbbington Brothers from Tangled, and voice of Firelord Sozin from Avatar: TLA! We've also Gunmar, the Bular's father and biggest villain in the series. The main goal for almost half of part 1. Voiced by Clancy Brown, voice of Mr. Krabs from Spongebob, Lex Luthor from various DC related media, and Long Feng from Avatar: TLA! We've then got Mr. Strickler, a changeling. A changeling is like a monster than that hide amongst humans by 'morphing' into one. We've also got Angor Rot. Alongside Combustionman from Avatar: TLA, He's one of the coolest assassins I've ever seen! He's actually a really smart character. His one weakness is a ring called the Inferna Copula. Whoever bears the ring controls him.
4. Overall Thought: If you haven't seen this series, then you have to and I mean HAVE to watch this series! It is absolutely fantastic. You'll especially enjoy this series if you're a big fan of fantasy!
Miitopia (2016)
Amazing!!!!!
How do I even describe this game other than one of the best games of all time. I don't treat my opinion as fact most of the time, but I will right now! That doesn't necessarily mean you take it as a fact. You can take it as an opinion! I'm treating my opinion as fact right now. I'm gonna list why this game is peach perfect!
1. The Story: The story is amazing! Basically, it goes like this: you cast Miis as different characters. You can cast yourself as the main hero! You can cast your friends and family as other characters or the first villains, the dark lord! Who wants to steal the people of Miitopia faces! It has the BEST comedy, and yet has a dark story. Stealing people's faces! There's a dark line in the game that shows how dark it is!
2. The Gameplay: The gameplay, while repetitive, is remarkable! You play the main hero and travel across different places in the world. It's slightly like the Super Mario Bros. games. By the end of the game, you have like, 14 classes to choose from! It's a amazing! You can only control your own character in the turn based battles! So it's slightly innovative!
3. Conclusion: I really wanted to make 'amazing' all capitals in the summary, but because of IMDb, I couldn't! If you're a fan of RPGs in ANY way shape or form, you need to buy this game right freaking now! If you're a fan of Mii based games, you need to buy this game right freaking now! If you're a fan of both, this game is for you! Buy this game! I've put 50+ hours into this game and I'M still trying to complete it! Getting all the medals you can get! I can assure you, it's worth every damn penny!
Sofia the First (2012)
I Tried So Hard To Hate This Show
I just really wanted to hate this show because it was a show for little girls. But I couldn't help myself. After a couple of hours of watching Sofia, I just had to admit to myself that I LOVE the show. It is such a remarkable one and teaches kids lessons. Like how you should give some people second chances and how you need to be nice to your friends no matter who's around. Sofia is absolutely adorable and almost perfect. If she ever makes a mistake, she apologizes and doesn't do it again. It is a nice show that teaches kids lessons as I said before. I would highly recommend this show to anyone who has a 5 year old or younger girl who wants to be a princess and learn proper manners and lessons!
DanTDM Creates a Big Scene (2017)
My Favorite Show on YouTube Red!
This is my favorite show on YouTube Red! It is remarkable and the humor is on point! Nothing could be funnier. Also, I put spoilers cause I'm paranoid. So the story goes a little something like this: DanTDM and his animated friends, Trayaurus, Mr Pig, Ellie and Darcie, and EvilTDM have misadventures putting on his show.
Dan delivers a wonderful performance and the animation is very similar to that of that Kirby Buckets show(it was way cooler and funnier here, though). The plots for each episode is hilarious and totally believable considering the world Dan has created around himself! If you love Dan's YouTube channel and his videos, I highly suggest you at least try this show and see if you like it!
The Three Stooges (2012)
Falls Short of Decent
Meh... I had a FEW good laughs with this movie, but overall, it really wasn't anything to get excited about. I went to see it with my dad(who is a Three Stooges fan) and we didn't really have that much fun with it. Here are my problems:
1. The Story: The story isn't that good. It goes like this. Moe, Larry, and Curly need to save their orphanage from being shut down. The story had potential, but it was poorly executed.
2. The Acting: I can tell the three actors tried their BEST to feel like the audience was watching the original series with the originals. But they fell short.
Now Here Are My Likes:
1. The Comedy: The comedy was actually pretty good. There was a scene where Teddy(I think that's his name) introduces the Three Stooges to an iPhone, to which Curly responds by putting one of his eyes in the face of the phone and tried saying hi to someone.
That's about all I can think of that I really enjoyed in this movie.
Superman (1999)
I Love It!!!
Before people who are reading this review stampede to the conclusion of me loving the is considered the worst game of all time, let me say that I do believe it is a horrible game! But the reason I love it is because it's so bad, it's good(at least in my opinion). I'm kinda like ProtonJon on YouTube. He says the exact same thing I say about this game. But I'm not going to review under his name.
The game goes like this: I've kidnapped your friends, Superman. Go save them. Clancy Brown reprises his role of Lex Luthor(he voiced Lex Luthor in the Animated Series). I feel bad for him. He doesn't deserve to be featured in this video game. He deserves to voice someone who owns a restaurant under the sea with a sponge as a fry cook(you know what I'm getting at).
The controls are just awful, I could laugh at them! I don't feel like telling how bad the controls are.
The game is chocked full of glitches and bugs. In one of the ring missions, I got stuck to a wall and failed the mission!
That is why I love this game! Every time I play it, I laugh at it!!! So... if you like laughing at awful games, then buy this game and let the LOLs begin. If you want a Superman game that's at least half decent, pick up Superman Returns. And if you already had played that repetitive game and hated it, then get a game from the Batman Arkham Series... or any other good game for that matter.
The Legend of Zelda: The Sage of Darkness (2008)
Amazing!
If I could, I would've put 'Amazing' above ALL caps, but IMDb doesn't allow that. This movie is flippin' awesome!! The story is amazingly original! They even stuck to the Zelda tradition of Link waking up! I was expecting this movie to be god awful after watching the god awful movie Hero of Time! This movie has awesome acting and remarkable villains. Specifically the Sage of Darkness. I love it that he is a rogue Sheikah! The music they use is on SPOT for all scenes of the movie, especially when Urdigin becomes Ganon! I'd recommend this movie to ANYONE who is a Zelda fan! There are flaws here and there, like a few scenes you can see people wearing normal clothes and one scene you can see a little DVD player. But those are very minor setbacks! Again, 10/10 for this movie!!!
Scared Shrekless (2010)
Frighteningly Funny!
This short is so FRIGHTNINGLY FUNNY! The stories are both creepy and hilarious(mostly hilarious)! I had watched this short about 10 times before I learned that Eddie Murphy doesn't voice Donkey! Gingerbread's story about him and a zombie like wife is funny! But in the end, Gingerbread didn't scare anyone and went running off himself! Donkey and Puss tried scaring the other off in the same setting several times! In the end, Donkey wins! They kept trying to scare each other off! Shrek's story is by far the creepiest/funniest! He sent Pinocchio running through a wood door! Overall, I'd give Scared Shrekless a 10/10!
Custom Mod Adventures (2015)
Absolutely Hilarious!
This Youtube show is HILARIOUS!! One of my favorite episodes is "Trayaurus's Coffee Shop"! Dr. Trayaurus opens and coffee shop and you watch the rest! Daniel Middleton does amazing when making this Youtube show! He has very original comedy! Whenever I feel down, I watch him! One of his greatest ideas was making Dr. Trayaurus, his smart and hilarious villager companion! He is pesky, and sometimes annoying to DanTDM! Every time Trayaurus makes DanTDM angry, I laugh out loud! Omigosh, Daniel Middleton was very clever to make something like this! If you like stuff with funny, witty Minecraft humor, this show is definitely for you!
