The Rookie: Simone (2022)
I had forgotten this old school TV strategy
Back in the once upon a time of TV, shows did this thing where they'd "back door" a test pilot into an existing show. Suddenly, the characters you tuned in to see and enjoy are guest stars in their own show while we're force-fed this clown stranger. It took me into the second part/episode before I clicked as to what was happening. Before that, I was terrified that Simone was going to be a new regular in "The Rookie" cast!!
I couldn't tolerate this nonsense. The character of Simone was ludicrous and annoying. Some superhuman blend of Batman, Sherlock Holmes, and possibly Obi Wan Kenobi, that automatically bursts out of a career as a Guidance Counsellor and single mom. (All with premium levels of SASS!)
Any person who "wanted to be an FBI agent their entire life" would have a pretty solid idea what the agency does. Yet, Simone is flabbergasted and outraged with every FBI method or protocol she encounters.
Doctor Doctor (2016)
Step by step descent
I can only chime in with a prevailing opinion here that each season dropped in quality. Season 1 was pure, polished gold. Loved it! Lively, exciting, warmly funny, alarming medical moments-all making a marvellous piece of jewellry.
Then down to gleaming silver, bronze, tin, and the final season is digging thru rusted scrap.
It is disquieting how the show winks and smiles at drugs. The characters drink, snort, smoke, and ingest all manner of intoxicants just for a lark. Other than a comedic hangover, it's all "merry fun".
One gnawing example of shoddy writing is the fate of Floyd. Penny's beloved jewel of a son was "off at boarding school" in a quick comment during Season 4. Season 5, Penny's effort at reinventing herself apparently means she sold Floyd for scientific experimentation.
