Harry & Meghan (2022)
As a British and American Citizen I have seen treason in this documentary
I know Americans can't understand this, but The Royal Family are civil servants in tiaras. They are our flag, they continue our traditions, they encourage us, help us, inspire us and never complain, never explain. Why they get free housing, security, jewels, a place in history and really work hard for us. We don't want their opinions, their whining - they as people are uninteresting, but their work and image is their duty which we take pride and fascination in.
When Meghan joined, gosh, we really loved her. First royal wedding I actually watched. My heritage of two countries coming together in The British Royal Family. What a moment, she looked beautiful. I was obsessed with her handbags and everything she work - she really is beautiful.
A few months in, suddenly we start to get reports of some very non-royal behavior...
- The writing on bananas some very cringeworthy messages for sex workers
- She and her Husband took 6 private jets in a matter of weeks and then launched an initiative about sustainable travel. The message being "It is okay for *us* (Harry & Meghan) to take private jets but don't you people do it." The British people do not respond well to hypocrisy. Harry and Meghan claimed it was "security reasons". The next week we saw the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th in line to the throne all board a budget flight to go to Scotland and see the queen. They had security with them - this was Royal of William and his family to do.
- The bump touching was excessive. Imagine Diana doing charity work and constantly bringing attention to her pregnant stomach instead of the AIDS patients or landmine victims. The media would report on her bump instead of the cause she was there for. Meghan did this constantly and in the end it looked more like she was there to promote herself than the Royal Patronages she was responsible for. I can barely remember what causes she was Royal patron of but can remember so many for the other members of the Royal family.
- The birth of their son was hidden from the public and while H&M told Americans they didn't want to "serve up their kid on a silver platter" the truth is that these births signal new additions into the line of succession and there is protocol there for a reason around transparency. Ie you can't switch in another kid. This is why Catherine, Princess of Wales had Royal doctors watching her push each one out. If the worst ever happened and we needed to go down the line of succession there could be questions on why they behaved that way with secrecy. Many speculations are that Meghan used a surrogate and wore fake pregnancy bump - there are pictures of her doing a knees together crouch in stilettos while 8 months pregnant. An almost impossible feat for someone with child. A true heir has to be "of the body". You can see why the British thought this was rather odd.
- The Royal Family are supposed to make inexpensive clothes look good but Meghan constantly wore expensive dressed that she splashed tax payer money on. We'd see The Princess of Wales in a $4k dress and then Meghan would wear a $40k dress the next week. It looked incredibly tasteless and out of touch for someone who is supposed to be in touch with the public to do that.
- The blood diamond earrings worn in Australia and to Charles' birthday were despicable.
- She had security at Wimbledon (like a posh superbowl) clear rows of paid seats so her friends could sit with her and then had her security harass people who took photos of her. She is a Royal, we funded everything for her, we expect her to smile and adore the general public who love her, not to demean people who are so excited she is there. It was not Royal behavior. Our royals are happy to mix with the British public.
I was very angry when the documentary mentioned none of this and instead there was a cringeworthy video of her comparing British curtsy tradition to a medieval themed restaurant while also likening herself to Diana - of which she is the opposite.
I couldn't believe how much she had blown an incredible opportunity given to her by The Queen and the British people. How amazing to have access to priceless jewels, a place in history, a Royal position to inspire and make a real difference. She did one or two great acts for us, but mostly her Hollywood behavior was the least Royal behavior we had ever seen. Like "do you know who I am??" kind of behavior when she had the respect and admiration of the world.
This documentary was an attempt to re-write the history to "their truth" but they have exposed themselves in their poor conduct, wishy washy statements, indirect accusations and whining. The only thing made clear to me from this documentary is that we have some living saints in King Charles and Prince William who have kept a dignified royal since and who have gotten on with the job instead of complaining to Oprah and then selling the family out for Netflix money.
I'm dismayed I live in America and have to constantly educate Americans on their lies due to the fact the media can't correctly report why they failed in the UK. Thank goodness William was born first. I'm sure just like the British public, he is tired of all this meg-believe.
Oprah with Meghan and Harry: A CBS Primetime Special (2021)
Many claims proven false weeks later
Lost a lot of respect for Oprah after this "program". Lost all my respect for Harry's Wife. Lost any sense of hope or respect for Harry. Felt really bad for The Royal Family after this one.
