NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service (2003)
Terrible haircut makes the show intolerable to watch.
If you can look past Gibbs crappy haircut then you might actually be able to enjoy the show. But the bad haircut really is a major distraction. As written, it is not believable that any sane person would keep such a crummy haircut for 10+ years. There is no insight to why Gibbs wears his hair this way. I think the writers should write a flashback episode that reveals the mystery of Gibbs hair-do. I think it is lazy script writing to leave this matter unresolved and not understood. The truth is, none of the writers can come up with a legitimate reason for anyone to wear their hair like this. Gibbs seems to have everything in order except for his haircut. Why would he leave it this way. It does not reflect well on his character.
The Guardian (2006)
The end was disappointing
This was a good movie overall, I didn't like the ending scene though. The circumstances during the ending scene were a bit absurd. There are many holes in plot of this scene. I feel the Chief's life could have been saved if portraying the real coastgaurd, their ethics would have prompted them to save everyone's life. I don't think the end was well written, leaves the audience with a lot of questions and steps around some obvious mistakes. But I do think that the movie does honor those who serve and protect us and sacrifice their own lives during duty. There is good character development and good performances by the actors.
Black Cadillac (2003)
Unremarkable film
I thought the story would be intriguing since it was supposedly based on a personal account of the writer/director. Just how much of the story is fact vs.scripted is difficult to discern. However, there are aspects of the story that seem phony. I watched only part of the movie along with the director's commentary.
The movie is set in Wisconsin and during the winter, but through most of the movie, if not all of it, you will not see the frozen breath of any of the characters. If it as cold as it is claimed to be during the events (20 below), a person will make huge clouds of vapor when he breathes or talks. One character makes a statement to another that he is "freezing to death", which was just not believable just for the lack of this detail. This isn't too large of a goof to overlook but I feel the director missed a great opportunity to make us believe that the frigid temperatures were an element of danger. The high speed driving on ice was to over the top to believe it was based on true accounts.
