i am not one to dwell on the past but i really do seem to recall it was alot safer and more fun, i kind of feel sorry for these kids growing up now, they just have so much more to deal with that it kind of takes away alot of the joys of being a kid.
to get back to the theatre they were always showing the old vincent price movies and i had an older friend i went to theatre with and remember alot of nightmares brought on by those old horror movies like "the tingler","the house on haunted hill" and others.
anyway, enough talk of the "good ole days". it just instilled in me a love of horror movies and scifi, although i can enjoy all kinds of movies these are generally my favorites.

La coquille et le clergyman (1928)
surrealism avant garde
Germaine Dulac was not really making a film which was ahead of it's time. surrealism was being used throughout the film makers of Europe and even being experimented with by those in the united states during this time period. Those that have studied that time period will agree that there was a lot of drug use back then and a lot of the directors were doing experimentation along these lines. Personally i don't believe that Germaine Dulac was using drugs but she was really interested in the surrealistic approach to film making.
I have watched this short several times and am still having a difficult time getting my head around what is going on, i cannot decide if the priest is suppose to be having a dream or on some kind of drugs or what, or if she made the film just in truest sense of the surrealistic tone of this movie to make the viewer question and wonder about it.
We may never know.
International House (1933)
giving credit where credit due.
Gracie Allen was the comedy innovator of the couple, she was an extremely intelligent and talented actress. playing the type of hare brained female parts that definitely would not have gone over today worked just fine back in those days. George Burns was a great comedian in his own right but Gracie was definitely his driving force and the light of his life for many decades.
Most of the other players in this little gem were also veteran comedy stars and performers and each added their important bits, w.c. fields definitely had his moments with his quips(some actually pretty funny). Some of the french bedroom farce was also pretty risqué for back then if you listen real carefully and remember when this movie was made-1933.
All in all a very enjoyable journey back to a simpler time, real good escapism.
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels (1998)
some of his best work.
in my opinion this is some of the best work guy Ritchie did. this is a very well made movie for the limited budget that he was given to work on. i was made to understand that a lot of the actors in this movie were actual criminals that they got to work on this movie, which accounts for a lot of the realistic attitude demonstrated throughout the movie. this movie has a lot of drug references,a lot of language and some minor female nudity, definitely not a show for the kiddies.
this was not what i would classify as a mean spirited movie, just a well done typical Saturday night good time,i have seen a lot of movies that seem to want to always send a message to us and they just seem mean spirited.
now,one more thing, can anyone tell me whether sigourney weaver may have done a cameo in this movie,i am talking about the brunette that was the last person they sold the item to before they got stopped by the bobbies. it sure looked like her and the wry smile she had as she was taking the bag from him sure looked a lot like her. tks, bob
