The Paperball Movie (2007)
Homage to Sergio Leone
The synopsis doesn't mention that this movie was an homage to Sergio Leone's camera-work, music and editing.
It also doesn't mention that this was made at Galileo High School in San Francisco and that their very handsome and brilliant media arts teacher (;-) introduced them to the work of Sergio Leone (among many others).
And finally that this is very impressive camera-work and editing from a group of high school students. Billy Gao storyboarded every shot. Belinda Man took the lead on the camera setups. There was an empty junk-filled room next door to media arts classroom. This movie was shot over a series of weeks.
Little Children (2006)
Did the end come together/pay off?
I wanted to like this movie. Everything I heard about this movie made me certain I would like it, but...
**SPOILER ALERT**
What I figured out was: Each central character was like a little child, not in charge of their own lives, not able to earn a living, flailing about in trying to figure out how to interact with others.
But I was left cold. At the end I didn't care about whether Sarah left with Brad or not. I didn't care about Sarah's feelings over Brad not showing up. I didn't even care about Jackie Earle Haley's self-inflicted wounds.
Did the end pay off for others? Did the end come together? And were you emotionally moved by the plight of these characters?
