Passages (2023)
Human connection
This is a movie about ways in which people are connected.
I had the luck to watch the Italian premiere of Passages in Milan with the director Ira Sachs. I loved his comments about the movie.
He gives a lot of autonomy and trust to the actors. He values freedom. The characters are three separetes individuals, he highlight the cruciality of the interpretations of the actors and what happens naturally on the set. The script are the only rules they should follow and that it is essential to listen to be a good actor. He chose these protagonists because he found them breathtaking and scenes' stelears in small roles. He thinks their interpretation is so crucial that other actors would have made a completely different movie. I think it is clear how the caracter are perfectly portrayed by the actors. I loved the performances of the three protagonists and how the characters felt real in a way.
Ira tells that every movie is a bit a documentary because talks about human and human life. Paradoxically, this remains a movie: it is not too realistic, as it can be seen from adele's fashion.
It is nice to be transported through the life of these three imperfects humans and how they navigate love and attraction.
Under the Silver Lake (2018)
We crave mistery 'cause there's none left.
Male gaze at its finest
Yeah I know maybe it's a critique and it's from the point of view of a fragile white cis male but still it is not ok. Women are perfect sexual object for the male gaze in this movie and nothing more and sometimes it's hard to watch.
Besides that the photography and set designs are really nice. Also the fact that I watched the whole 2+ hours of the movie means that it was in fact intriguing. I enjoy maximalist movies as there's always something going on.
"We crave mistery 'cause there's none left."
That's what the movie is all about. Searching for hidden messages and conspiracy theories while the truth is in front of your eyes and much simpler. It's about boredom, finding a purpose in the worse way. Laziness and privilege. If you are searching for answers there are none, it is just more and more questions. It's more about the storytelling than the plot itself.
Furthermore there are many references and homages. It is also quite interesting trying to understand what it's real and what it's in his head.
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
Good film with a strong message
It is important to write a review to give justice to this movie, because the majority here are really bad reviews.
To begin with photography is perfect all the scene are well curate. The only mistakes I can see are probably some aspects of the story, not really clear at certain moments but that is just it.
The film is really enjoyable, I didn't stop watching it neither for a second.
Firstly I didn't understand how could the end be in any way related to the film, but after a few scenes I realised how it was all connected. The end is "disturbing", during the whole movie there are strong images. The propaganda movie shown, the last videos... everything has a reason and is connected. The whole movie has a strong message on how racism affected and still affect us today. How it was imposible to continue investigating against the clan.
I'm glad the movie reacived prices, because it deserved them and I hope people could watch it the way I did. It's an impressive work.
Everyone has their point of view but like it or not, this movie has an important message that has to be considered.
