French Kiss (2004)
An American girl in Paris
Jean Paul Berthier convince one of his friends, Seb, that he is too busy to take care of an American cousin named Kate. They all visit Paris until a revolution starts in the US. French Kiss is an upbeat nonsense comedy with a political twist. In the movie, France and the US are both criticized. Trivia: President Chirac was filmed during the celebration of the WWII victory. Don't look a real plot in this movie. Actually, to tell it is to spoil it. The story is a web of literal and practical jokes like "This is hard to shot" about the Eiffel Tower or "We french don't mess with the war". In France a lot of critics have declared that Peretjatko was influenced by the French new wave. It is not exactly true. The director simply like to work like his Idol, Jean-Pierre Mocky, famous for his very low budget production.
Ça sera beau (From Beyrouth with Love) (2005)
an impressionist ballad (full of sound and fury) in Beyrouth
From Beyrouth with Love is not a fiction nor a documentary. One of the best way to describe it would be "filmed diary" or "notes on a town". Don't expect to "learn" anything about Libanese wars in this movie : no talking head appears in it. You're suppose to feel that people were pushed down this building you see in the sunset. And thank to a really remarkable super 16 photography, you might, if you don't focus too much on the corny poetry at the end. So, if you have half an hour to visit one of the most interesting city on earth, just go for it: From Beyrouth is a beautiful love letter... with a little corny poetry at the end, as a postcard of a building in the sunset, when you're not suppose to know that people have been pushed down from it. A real testimony about today's love.
