Silverado (1985)
Waste of Money
Contempt is not an accurate word for this movie. If I could give it zero stars I would. Clap trap fantasy created for a perceived audience. Every person involved in this movie should be ashamed of themselves, but I'm sure they were too busy laughing all the way to the bank. This dreck reminds me of the "Super Hero" garbage we have to endure today.
A Bridge Too Far (1977)
Music Is Horrible
The cast is generally good, especially the secondary players. If it wasn't for the horrible theme song, this could be a much better movie. The combat sequences were good for the day (no CG available back then) and unlike alot of WW2 movies, the weaponry is accurate. The scenes are sometimes over sentimental, a director's attempt to bring something meaningful to the movie. Just falls flat. Ryan O'Neill is particularly flat. Same with James Caan.
Impractical Jokers (2011)
Braying Jackasses
Their bits would be funnier if somebody else was doing them. Individually, they might be funny. But as a group, they're braying jackasses. This show should be cancelled and quickly forgotten.
The Civil War (1990)
Books are still better than film.
Although Ken Burns documentary is well researched, it still lacks a larger view of American history as it stood at that time. Shelby Foote is over utilized and his sympathies are quite apparent. David McCulloch gives the documentary an instant legitimacy that no documentary deserves. An unknown narrator would have given this show a better push for viewers to search out this war for themselves. And what of the "Nullifiers" and their precious 10th Article of the Constitution? The Civil War started decades before 1861 and current events show that it's still being fought today. This series, even giving it's length, is nothing more than an overview, a glossing over of events. But that's his style, all style. Billy Crystal and Bob Costas for "Baseball", all style, all voices, all faces. As a documentary film maker, he's not in the top 10. Given his funding, that's a terrible shame.
Furious 6 (2013)
Don't Waste Your Time
Unlike the review written by Steve Pulaski, I'm not going to get into homo eroticism and other such psydointellecual tripe, this movie is just a bad Robert Ludlum knockoff. In fact, most of his stuff is pretty horrible to begin with (not to mention his ghost written post death, Matt Damen dreck). There's nothing fast or furious about this movie. What few chase scenes there are in this movie are all hacked to pieces. The shots of the actors faces are too numerous and are nothing more than filler. One "Bullitt" or "The Vanishing Point" is worth a thousand "Fast and Furious 6". But considering how much money this movie made, how can you argue with it. The "down low " culture of 15 year olds has taken over. The good old days of car chases is dead and buried. Man buns and Taliban beards now rule.
