Don't Let Go (2019)
Too Predictable to Enjoy
I wanted to like it, afterall the movie was marketed so well. But I really couldn't enjoy it. Probably because I've seen the formula too many times before. The acting is good and there are some originality to the characters, but the other critical reviews are valid. Meaning, INCREDIBILY predictable story line; uneven editing; the magic of time travel is never explained; and you really have to ignore modern day police work to even believe half the story. Finally, I couldn't understand how the main character could be shot all those times in the lower torso, run, go to work, do stuff, and not die nor even go to the hospital. Is he super human too? Basically, it is a modern spin on a old movie.
Frozen II (2019)
A terrible lesson for children
I guess the movie is pleasant enough at face value, if you have no sense of history or critical thinking skills. The music was highly derivative of Frozen II and one number was mind-numbingly juvenile. My main problem was with the plot. SPOILER: It literally made no sense that the unnamed gods would call to Elsa to travel a great distance to save a land, where the native inhabitants had to power to save themselves the whole time. It was a lesson in the obligation of "White Man's burden." It literally makes the case that if you have a problem, wait for your savior to come (even if it takes 34 yrs), rather than people learning to help themselves immediately. Were there NO people of color in the room when they wrote, pitched, and developed the story for production? Plus, why would Elsa and Anna's mom keep secret that she was supernatural, when she knew that her daughter had abilities - or when she was older? Instead, she sang a song with metaphoric clues to them as young children. So much of this movie just made no sense. I wish I could have had this conversation with Disney.
The Lion King (2019)
It isn't all that
It follows the original very closely, but some of the wittiest and funniest lines were cut. I guess this was to give extended time to the final battle, which was an unfortunate choice. It is a kid's movie after all. I felt uncomfortable for the little ones watching prolonged violence on screen. I, too, agree with other reviewers' criticisms: animals' mouths didn't consistently move - so voiceovers were insane so much of the time. No eyebrow movement, thus little emotion was conveyed facially. I know this is true for many in the animal kingdom, but this movie was all CGI, they could have given the characters facial expressions. All the lionesses had the same face - nonsensical. The movie is all about the CGI, which they are proud of; however, the adults in the room must have been working so hard to make a great visual image that they forgot they were remaking a musical. Personally, I wish they just created stylized versions of the groundbreaking stage production characters for the new Lion King film. Too bad there is no do over.
Wild Oats (2016)
Disappointing
For this type of film, there have to be better choices. I have been a fan of ALL the lead actors for as long as I can remember, but the material in this film is wasted on their talent. Some parts are too unbelievable, even for a screwball comedy.
A Stone Cold Christmas (2018)
Good ideas, but ...
I like the way the story unfolds. Its a fun twist on A Christmas Carol. Unfortunately, the flaws are a distraction. I don't know if it is bad direction or acting, sometimes yhe characters are over-the-top and stereotypical while the more seasoned actors save the show. Plus, not to be a spoiler, there is a problem regarding the ages of the cast that make final resolution unbelievable.
Ghostbusters (2016)
I wanted to like it.
I really did, but the story didn't flow logically. And the characters choice didn't match their intelligence. The best parts of the film were the cameos of the original stars.
