Visually stunning but that's it.

The film is amazing on the big screen, the score definitely fits the film, BUT the storyline is very distorted and far from what Frank Herbert wrote. The timeline is not supposed to be within a year, and I fear that the next film will move even further away from Dune the messiah now that the timelines have all been put out of place.

The build up to the end was great, but the final battle was over so quickly I was frankly very surprised and extremely disappointed.

The book had subtle twists that were left out of the film and therefore the character development is shallow and the love story between Paul and Chani is left wanting.

Personally I think Florence would have played a better and stronger Chani.

Very disappointed that Alia's birth storyline was completely missed .

They have an amazing casting, and thrown a lot of money into making a sorrowful adaptation of a great book.

Origin story at it's best
14 August 2022
Wow! 32 years to give a brief explanation to a story arch. Sensational film with great cinematography, the only letdown is the American lion in the 1700s. Amber is perfect for the role, a real contrast from Roswell.

She is smarter than a beaver, and so is the film, very well thought out, with unexpected twists on obvious cliché.

In my mind I was thinking that this could be the start of all origin story's relating to the 1st alien v predator film, but now having watched it through twice I hope that they can make a sequel and definitely put it on the big screen, I want to see it again in a cinema!

Dune (2021)

Almost perfect.
24 October 2021
I have read the books and had NOT seen any of the spoilers, so the fact that it ended so abruptly was a shock.

This adaptation off Frank's book is visually amazing, It really felt like Dune in my mind.

There are a few flaws though that make it harder for people to understand who haven't read the books. The Mentat's ability to find and solve problems was not explained and therefore his role and position with the Duke was left wanting. Similarly the Dr's position was not fully explained leaving a few minor plot holes that I had to explain to my wife and son.

All in all it was truly wonderful, I can't wait to see what happens next or even if they make the other books into such masterpieces.

It's not all black and white
16 January 2021
Having watched the 1st 2 episodes, I am very disappointed. The only thing that makes me want to watch more it the fact that the story is obviously to leave you wandering. What we are wandering is obviously the mystery of the series. I LOVE marvel but this is awful.

Green screen flop
27 June 2020
Will Smith plays the part well. Type casted as the serious man with a sense of humour which is great compared to his fresh prince days. But the main problem with the film is the green screen and cgi, there are no stunts to be seen because you can almost see the wire work. Liked the storyline, premis and actors, but hated the cheap budget effects.

Breathtaking performance

If you want an origin story from the DC world, then you have to see this film. It is not an action packed adventure like batman, but a story of a man who lives in a world that is unjust, unforgiving and toxic. The music score throughout helps the intensity of the story and Mr Phoenix's portrayal and character development really is astounding. Will have to watch it again to get my head around the storyline some more.

Once upon a time . . 3 groups of people left the cinema before me
20 August 2019
I have loved Tarantino films in the past, but this is the worst film he has produced. Have no idea why it was rated 18 as for the first 1 hour 45 there was only swearing and 1 person got hit in the mouth POSITIVES There are a few funny jokes. There is however a huge nostalgic reminder of the 60s , but that is it. If the end of the film was any good, I can't tell you because like LOTS of others i didn't make it to the end. Brad Pitt was good and leonardo DiCaprio did a few great scenes. But sorry but this film was not worth the ticket price

A truly fun film
4 July 2019
I think that this is the best spiderman film to date. .very funny and of course the marvel effects are very very good. Love the style of this movie apart from the opening credit music, purely my age as it is the theme tine for another film . But apart from that. The storyline was great, the characters really came into their own this time. The tidy from "the blip" as it is called works well although they are technically in 2024 it still works. Will see it again with my son this weekend

Do NOT watch the re-release
1 July 2019
Cheap trick my Disney to try and overtake Avatar! I am furious the Disney said that there will be a few surprises and some deleted scenes (plural). I was honestly expecting to see them within the movie or some extra dialogue, but nothing. The 1 scene AFTER the credits was not even noteworthy and had not even been finished. Complete let down. The original had no end credit scene, but this one did, and with just a few hours away from spiderman, it was not worth showing, it should have been shared at the end of the original cut like with all the other marvel films. I saw the original on the opening night and a few times after and scored the film 8 out of 10. But this score of 5 is because the re-release left a bitter taste from a money grabbing Disney.

Horrific
7 June 2019
This terrifying account of what happend in 1986 truly puts your hairs on end. My 14 year old son is studying Chernobyl at school, but I can't let him watch this because it is so emotionally disturbing. It was educational for me too. In the final episode they really break it down for you on how nuclear reactors work. The visuals effects are great, the music score and back beat amplify the emotive detail to really pull you into the event. Definitely one to watch, I am sure this will become a timeless classic.

Keanu at his best
16 May 2019
The film is non stop action filled with a LOT of bloodshed as you would expect, the storyline of John shows more about his past without giving us everything (ready for John wick 4) . There is one amazing fight scene with John and Sophia that is breathtaking. The 2 additional heros of that scene are amazing to watch even if a bit repetitive, but still an awesome sequence. I do hope in the 4th film the follow up on their storyline that they touched on with a few notable questions that a raised. Completely open for film 4 and based on the fact the cinema was pretty full I hope they make it soon, cant wait to see how they tie up the full story.

Homage to the past movies
25 April 2019
They spent a lot of time in this film trying to tie up loose ends from both the past and present with some fitting scenes relating to previous movies. I loved the film but spent the first hour wondering where it is going, and how long is it going to take to get there. The big battle was both good and bad. It seemed a little messy because they were trying to give each character some on screen action time. The CGI and effects are as always amazing in the MCU films though. Lots of cheering in the cinema and clapping too which was unfortunate as many gags and punch lines got missed. I will see it again so that I can just sit and enjoy the final story but unfortunately I don't think it lived up to the hype.

Origin story's don't do well
8 March 2019
As we all know, this is the origin story to bring captain marvel into the Endgame film. Great, but felt like I was watching the green lantern flop. It is great for a bit of nostalgia and good for tying into the next film, but the general plot was weak and the biggest saving grace was the CGI effects that marvel do so well. The 2 end credit scenes don't actually give away anything, but it did help debunk some of the silly rumours that get pushed about. I think once endgame is out, captain marvel will be a distant memory.

Confusing.
2 March 2019
The show is great! But it seems they are trying to make something for every generation and and every country. It is set in the UK, but the scene is that of usa and the continent. The time is somewhere between 1980 and now. Clothing and cars make me think of the 80s but the concept is trying to be current with laptops and mobile phones. . The storyline is predictable from episode 1 to 8, you know all the secrets several episodes before they happen. The storyline is however good and the characters are easy to related to.

Stunning visual effects
6 February 2019
Great film, with a building plot that is left wide open for a sequel. Overall the film is great and I hate to say this but movement of Alita's mouth just does not work with the words, unfortunately once you notice it the 10/10 gets knocked down some. It might work better in 3D, hence I will watch it again. Definitely worth seeing on the big screen and can't wait for chapter 2!

Simply brilliant acting
19 January 2019
James McAvoy surpassed himself in this film. In a lot of cases you knew which persona he was taking on just from his physical demeanour. The stories tie up together so well. The ending was left with an opening for more, but because this film was so good, I hope that they don't try and make another just for the money. As I am not sure that they can top this movie.

Good visual effects, But poor actor choices
16 January 2019
Having watched the first severely episodes (and all of the originals). I find it hard to draw out many positives. The 2 sisters that grew up with their mum just don't work, they look and act as if they are still in school, and I don't mean college. The character Macy is the only one who seems to have any maturity, but even that is taken away with her lack of life experiences. I don't understand why reboots are trying to be so diverse, but it feels like this was written by and for children, this is supposed to be about witches developing their powers to save the world, but you just can't warm towards these 3 girls, oh I forgot they are supposed to be women, and that's how it feels, like 3 little girls trying to be grown ups. 3/10 Ending on a positive, the majority of the demons and effects look very good, and that is why I have continued to watch the series. 7/10

Slow starter. But let's look at the positives
16 January 2019
Having watched the pilot episode (and the original 3 series), they have evolved the characters into young adults, probably to draw us away from looking at the parallels. It is obvious that the writers want to be diverse, but some of these are going too far.

Obviously there will be the Liz and Max love story, alien hunters etc. I just hope that they can build something new and exciting.

The positive is that they have thrown some money into this and the visual effects look quite good. Max and Liz seem to act (in both senses of the word) as they were portrayed in the original series.

Thought provoking

The plot certianly opens your eyes to the families and friends for those with autism. I am not a fan of American comedy, but the balance if perfect. You just have to love and feel for every individual in the series. For better or worse each character has their pro's and con's. The writers need to keep producing works like this that push the social boundaries.
