Indiscreet (1958)
Forget the plot and enjoy the stars.
These two together generate a rare electricity that transcends the very weak and preposterous plot. Ingrid is a little chunky yet still unquestionably ravishing. Cary is, well, "perfect" as usual. Just enjoy them and forget the story line. Another little bit of advise is to make sure you reject the impulse to compare this picture to Notorious. The reason I mention this is frankly there is no comparison other than the fact they appear in both movies. The films are totally different in genre. Lastly it's a good time here to lament the fact there are no longer movies stars like these and sadly there will never be such again.
The Man (1972)
Rare Treat
Although dated this is an excellent movie with Jones as commanding as usual. One of the most intriguing phenomena to watch is how his character grows into the bold and confident president one would expect of one who has tasted the power of the office. The ubiquitous theme of racism is dealt with adroitly. Moreover the Rod Serling screenplay makes one wish the old master would have left a greater body of work along these lines. The Movie is however much different from the book but this was for me a very enjoyable find, especially after a near 30 year search. I recently got a fair copy from videogrill on Ebay. As of this date 4-20-6 there is another copy being offer through the same online group.
The Narrow Margin (1952)
Nice little film noir
The tight dynamic of this short movie causes one to know instinctively not to bat an eye or you'll miss something. Not only miss something but regret missing it. Watch for the first appearance of the little bratty Tommy and if you need to slip away for a quick second that's your time to do it. Even the bright light scenes have that just right hint of darkness needed to sustain the noir effect. This type of movie with it's array of pungent character actors makes you long for some vague resemblance to the genre today. The sweet tension between the leading man and his 2 leading ladies constantly begs for resolution, this while making you wonder will this be one of those where the bad guys get it or will all the good guys be rubbed out.
