(Have only watched the first episode, will update if my opinion changes)
Given the overal low rating but interesting premise I felt compelled to chime in.
Moonhaven is one of those shows I am not sure how it got greenlit, given it seems purposely constructed to alienate audiences in some ways. Many of the integral parts of an accomplished sci-fi series are there, along with some additional interesting feautures, not least among which is the moonspeak.
Moonhaven doesn't really diverge that much from other traditional sci-fi in a lot of respects. It feels it falls somewhere along Blade Runner meets the more recent Foundation with a dash of weirdness (think Legion but maybe even more inaccessible) chucked in. The characters are fairly well established and the world-building is actually pretty intruiging. There's layers of complexity, with remote civilization IO (built on the moon with the sole purpose of aiding in earth's rehabilitation) simultaneously worshipping modern earth culture as it's portrayed in the show and condemning it.
I think the biggest stepping stone in getting into the series might be the way characters talk. Characters use a lot of imagery in their language, at times it seems to resemble the way a schizophrenic person would express themselves. It isn't precisely interpretable but it can be intuitively understood quite well once you get into it. It's a bit weird at first but also quite pleasant and a nice change of pace.
The cinematography is beautiful and the distinct feel of IO as a place seperate from earth is well reflected in the series, despite some of the CGI being less than stellar.
All in all I think it is definitely worth a go. There's a couple of very dinstict artistic choices the show makes which might alienate some but beneath that there's some really well built themes and characters, basically what you'd want from a sci-fi series.
