Moon Knight: The Tomb (2022)
Now THIS is more like it
This was by far the best episode, and it didn't even contain moon knight. Very well written and directed, with well done tension, suspenseful action, and twists and turns. Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke continue to turn in two of the best performances we've seen in the MCU. Try to watch this one without getting spoiled on it. Bring on episode 5!
Moon Knight (2022)
Has potential to be MCU's greatest
If they can keep this level of quality up it'll be the best disney + show they've done yet and one of the best pieces of marvel content, period. Really strong start with great writing & imagery and already one of the best performances in the whole MCU - Oscar's acting in the steakhouse was incredible, and Ethan hawke is turning in a great performance too. Two S-tier actors clearly giving this their all and not phoning it in at all. AND we have Justin benson and Aaron Moorhead (writers and directors of the great and smart 'The Endless') directing the majority of the rest of the episodes. Way more violent than anything Disney + has done so far which is great. The cinematography and effects were laudable and the score was great and unique also. All that being said, the quality of the show could still drop off a cliff next week, but this episode is a 9.5/10 for me. Thanks for attending my Ted talk.
The Batman (2022)
Matt Reeves could be an all-time great director.
Every aspect of this movie blew me away. Action, Cinematography, Writing, Musical Score, Acting - all 10/10 in my book. This movie was incredible.
That scene with Paul Dano was oscar-worthy.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Pretty embarrassing
Episodes 5 and 6 were great.
The finale was a disaster with laughable writing, horribly shot action, and boring, drawn out scenes. How do you make a rancor boring? Well, Rodriguez found a way. For the love of God, please don't let him direct anything Star Wars again. Let him stick to his spy kids movies. Also, what a bummer that they killed off Cad Bane - the most interesting character in this episode. And I loved how the giant droidekas just always slowly walked towards our heroes without ever firing their weapons. This episode was hilariously bad. I still have hope for Obi-Wan in May.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa (2022)
The worst Star Wars yet
I loved mando, and have been okay with the first two episodes of Boba. This episode was laughably bad. From hideous "action" choreography to completely idiotic writing, this felt like fanfiction written by a 14 year old. I was hyped for this show and I want to like it; I hope the series gets better from here.
2/10 episode.
Succession: Too Much Birthday (2021)
*EDITED* still top-tier TV
*EDITED* My original review:
This episode dragged a little bit for the first time all season, but there are some hugely powerful moments that more than make up for it. That last shot of the episode..
Upon rewatch, there's a ton more subtlety than I caught the first time. I was running on two hours of sleep and I got a little bored. That was my mistake because if you pay attention this is flat out one of the best episodes of the series. Every single line is either a callback or a culmination or a payoff to something set up earlier in the season. Finally in this episode all the masks are stripped off and we see these people as they actually are - unhappy, bitter, insecure children. This episode was amazing and it was my fault for thinking I could watch an episode of succession without paying 100% attention to it.
Succession: The Disruption (2021)
The best episode yet of season 3
No spoilers, but seeing the real Kendall for the first time at the end of this episode was chilling and the best moment of the season so far. This show is masterfully done. I can't even imagine where this season will go - we're only 3 episodes in!
Succession: Secession (2021)
And... we're back
Ever since the series premiere, this show has been a masterclass in slowly but surely ratcheting up the tension. In most TV series, the tension builds throughout the season- there's a big dramatic finale, and the opening of the next season is a lot more relaxed, to be able to ratchet up the drama and tension again during the season. Shows that can increase the tension more and more -not only episode to episode, but season to season- are incredibly rare, and succession is one of them. (the only other that comes to mind is Breaking Bad.) Season 3 picks up all the incredible tension and drama from the end of season 2, and elevates it even higher. This is all to say that this show is masterfully done, and if it sticks the landing (I'm looking at you GOT) will be one of the best shows ever created. Based off its opening, season 3 has potential to be the best season yet.
