Varikkuzhiyile Kolapathakam (2019)
Excellent thriller movie
An underrated movie initially that people only realized later on that it is a very good movie. Modest cast but great acting by the lead actor. Movie and acting by lead and rest much better than many of the other superstar malayalam movies of today
Golmaal Again (2017)
A thorough family entertainer sprinkled with some good comedy!
There are people on this review blog who have rated this movie less than 4, some even 1 which goes to show that IMDb review process is biased specifically for Indian movies. The basic reason for that is the corruption that has gripped the roots of many Indians so much so that they could be hired or could hire folks to provide negative feedbacks for a good movie in order that it not do well at the box office.
I was warned about relying too much on IMDb reviews for Hindi and Indian movies in general and take it with a sprinkling of salt. Previously I used to only watch Hindi movies that had a rating of 7 or more and by that standard I would have definitely not seen the movie.
But, when with my family we initially fastforwarded through this movie is when i though 'Wait! this movie seems good'. And boy, this movie is thorough family entertainer so much so that all members of my family i.e. 70, 49 , 46, 18, 9 and 8 year olds - enjoyed to the brim!
My sincere advise-just listen to this review alone and see the movie with your family!
Bãhubali 2: The Conclusion (2017)
A glorified Amar Chitra Katha but a directorial masterpiece
For the storyline I would probably have given a 3 of 10, but man o man, this is a directorial masterpiece. The composition, costumes and settings of the movie are fantastic and beyond anything that has been done in Indian cinema till date. I have heard screams saying that Sholay was the greatest Indian movie ever. I agree that Sholay was one of greatest Bollywood movies ever but there is no comparison here. Sholay had a gripping storyline and great actors including superstars. For Bahubali, the actors have mostly performed well but is Rajamouli that takes the cake here for his Amar Chitra Katha and the sequences, sets and some fantastic scenes that you would want to see over and over again. For those Bollywood aficionados who do not know Rajamouli or any of the numerous South Indian movies, you guys know very little about Indian cinema. Indian cinema may begin in Bollywood but it does not end there. Regional movies, many a times are far more superior when it comes to direction and mostly acting skills. Bahubali 1 and 2 both are worthy enough to go and watch in a Cinema hall with the whole family. If not twice, at least once. I am 50 years old, born in India but living in Canada since 2001, and this was only our second non TV movie that we went out and watched. The movie was a rave when it got released, with people queuing up outside theaters to buy tickets. Tickets were at a premium the first week.
