Alias Grace (2017)
Wait for it, wait for it. Oh wait, nothing's going to happen.
I am somewhat sate of all these flashy trailers that leave me breathing air through my mouth and then i realize i've fallen for the same old marketing trick.
Like many others that probably watched this show, i myself have not read the book, nor do i intend to because it just leaves me questioning so many different aspects of this book/show that i never thought i would be questioning.
What i expected was a psychologically disturbed pathological liar that got away with killing and manipulating more than five people in her favor, what i got was a bible study of the feminist mind and her hot 50 year old master. He is hot, stop denying it.
The last two episodes should or could have been so much more but they never culminated for me it just went up, up and then down down and flatlined.
I have the feeling we are probably missing a lot of backstory. Nevertheless i think the show was good...maybe. Let's leave it to god shall we?
Mother! (2017)
Javier Bardem and others...
I have long since depleted my well of horror flicks so you can imagine how excited and ecstatic i was when i found out that Paramount was making a horror movie staring not one but three Oscar-Winning actors.
Long story short i want my two hours back. ASAP.
Javier Bardem was amazing in every single way. From his appearance to his acting/reacting everything the guy did was genuine and good.
Michelle barely had her 3 minutes, but they were good in their own short insignificant unmemorable kind of way.
Then comes the girl that ruined "The Hunger Games" for us book readers. I have never seen an actress be that dull in expression and emotion like Lawrence is, i mean good god girl you have 30+ people in your house do something! Speak?
So there i am an hour and half well into movie devising theories about how the last 30/45 minutes are going to develop. Is it going to be one of those mindfu*k movies, is she actually dead all along? Is he a vampire? Is he the devil?
It's none of the above. I sincerely had to spend another 30 minutes looking up meaning/symbolism that this movie "represents" while i was grieving about the time i'd lost watching it.
My advice? Don't bother. Javier is hot though...just sayin'
Lady Bird (2017)
Three Stars, Three Jokes.
Don't get me wrong i was really excited about this movie!
So i sat down and i said to myself "Let's just give this movie a chance, maybe it will be a hidden gem".
Inb4 i'm sitting there watching a re-run of every other teen high school/will you go to the prom with me- type of movie. No offence, but it was really underwhelming.
The only actual funny scene in this movie was when she jumped out of her mothers car (which is also surprisingly in the trailer on Youtube) and nothing else. There was also a one liner-racist joke that she pulled on her brother and that was it. Oh and yeah let's make it even more anti-climatic and make her boyfriend gay because that hasn't been done before.
"My name is "Lady Bird" not Christine....in the words of Jenna Walton (Odeya Rush)...."weird".
"But it's a coming of age movie"--No ma'am, it's not! If you do want to watch a coming of age movie, go watch "The Breakfast Club" or something.
I don't get the ratings on this movie.Watch an hour long version of the movie trailer, it's wayyyy better, trust me.
