King Kong (2005)
Im watching in French w subtitles because the diction & sound levels are horrible.
And after now so many cliched scenes - girl discovered by obsessed director who just knew she was the one, fake Titanic scene on the boat with lovely dress & teary ending, encounter of intellectual bookworm with toothsome stage-frightened starlet which turns steamy. Lots of ominous references to the island and Heart of Darkness, lots of staring with foreboding glances.
One lovely scene of boat going through the fog. We're scared & we don't know what to do & it looks bad for us but then that's why we're here, to remake a movie that everyone already knows about, so what does it really matter?
Mistah Kurtz, he dead. As Conrad would say.
Not credible. Giving up halfway through. Snore.
Lolo (2015)
Excruciatingly cliched script but terrific acting.
Every cliche about Parisian bobos is on full display here. I didn't find any of it funny, just mean-spirited, to use another reviewer's word.
And every cliche about spoiled young psychos attachment to maman's boobies is here too.
What really ruins it is the happy ending, hardly credible after what has come before.
Kudos to Vincent Lacoste who is so lubriciously sleazy here that he is typecast in my brain forever.
Watching Julie Delpy's vacillations is an agonizing experience but she does do a very good job with the schizophrenic changes required. It's just that when she wises up, we really don't believe her.
Would have been nice if Dany had just pushed the baby out of the window & ended it all right there.
Two stars because I did keep watching.
Maybe I should give three, though, for the caricature of the Parisian "art world..."
Hmmmm
Yes, three, but not for comedy...
Plan Coeur (2018)
Ok don't lose patience at beginning of season 2...
Well, I changed my mind.
It's very easy to give up on this bande de dingues & I almost did, but kept halfway watching until it started to get real again about halfway through this season.
And from then on, there was some evolution in the lives of even Charlotte and Milou.
It would have been just too fairy tale if things had continued well after Elsa's séjour in « Buenos Aires » but of course the path of true love is never smooth and sometimes our best friends get in the way. And then, love also reveals our own doubts, fears, inadequacies as well as requiring we disclose our histories.
All this happens.
On to season 3...
