Terminator Salvation (2009)
Simply, I didn't like it.
There is no Arnold. There is no James. There is no seriousness. And most of all, there is no real hero in this film. I tried to keep focus on each characters but none of them actually grabbed my interest.
And most, most of all, seriously, in this film, nothing actually happened nor solved.
Another useless Terminator series like T3.
MCG, why did you accept this project? You are not as half as James and you know that!
Your previous films like Charlie's Angels is not even worth mentioning failure!
I sometimes don't know about Hollywood. How they choose directors for huge budget film. Is this some kind of gamble?
Elegy (2008)
Except Penelope, the movie would have been better
First, I understand truly why the narrative moves pretty slow.
If you see movies like, 'My life without me' or 'Secret World of words', you will know that it's the director's style. Camera usually is kind of floating by like gazing and surveys the character- this time Penelope. Camera usually never stops. It always moves to adjust the angle and show the emotion of characters. But the thing is, for some reason, although Penelope herself was acting well, I didn't buy her character 100%. I don't know maybe it's my personal interest in her. But I kept thought about Sarah Polly. Male character didn't had to say you are so perfect. You are so pretty to the actress at the director's other movie 'My life without me' because we can see that she is pretty, we can see that she is charming. Sometimes, it is annoying to hear that the woman character is pretty many times.
Penelope was a little aged for the character. Maybe she was too comfortable for her character that makes me not totally believe her character. She might have acted with her head than her heart. I don't know. But it was a little annoying. I still liked the way the director's way of making characters and storyline. Slow and steady but somewhat never stops from moving forward. But as I said, when I see Penelope, I just couldn't totally concentrate on her. Like I said it's maybe my personal taste in Penelope. But something was missing for sure comparing to her other movies.
Never Forever (2007)
Director's power
I am Korean working as a writer/director in America. The director studied in the same film school but I never met her. That was the only interest in this film.
I always didn't liked Vera Farmiga. I thought that her acting is awful since she feels so much about her look when she is acting. I never saw her getting into her character truly.
But in this film she was pretty good. At the beginning, she was not so good as usual. But as time goes by, I felt that she is feeling what her character needs and wants.
I still don't think that it's her hidden ability that made this possible but rather her effort working with the director.
Above all, I was very impressed about the film. There are a lot of layers in the story, each characters' emotion and of course the light and shadow in the mis-en-scene.
It's a wonderful art movie.
Bee Movie (2007)
Well done
I thought this is a well done movie more fore all ages.
As time goes by I felt cozy and laughed more.
Not a stupid comedy but true laughter.
Also Renee Zellweger's surprising voice change is just lovely.
The ending which is Bees' reconcile with human seems a little cheesy but not too bad for children so I can bare that.
Even the most animation hate friend of mine laughed a lot which I think is a good sign.
I think this movie will have more audience as time goes by.
By the way, I am 30 something and my friend is 40 something.
Se, jie (2007)
I have to confess
First of all, I have to admit that Ang Lee is a really good director who knows exactly how to control a couple actors feel the chemistry.
Second, Tony Leung's acting is almost at the pinnacle.
Third, Wei Tang was the only defect in this film because of her poor acting. Although she was brave and bold enough to expose her full body, her emotional expression was simply not moving especially when he show anger in front of her colleague who work together.
Mis-En-scene were really good, and the fast Pan+Tilt camera movements were new and breath taking.
If you can only bare the first 30 minutes (kind of boring moment before Tony Leung shows up), you will leave the theater with great satisfaction.
PS: I have to confess. I finished my first feature length film and after I saw this film, I felt so so embarrassed.
