I wish I could give this less than a star
17 May 2024
This movie was just awful. I don't know how it got high marks and a higher rotten tomato score. It was just terrible. The dialogue was super forced, the characters were not likable in any way, It was confusing, it was all over the place, and it was unnecessarily loud in multiple spots in the movie. Half the people in our theater left midway through the movie because it was just that bad. We stuck it out until the end hoping that it would get more interesting, but it did not. It was just extremely convoluted.

My son and I were not happy that we wasted two hours of our lives on this film and would not recommend it to anyone who is not completely stoned.

Wait for the rental on this one

Warning: Spoilers
It was just okay. If you're not a part of the AMC stubs club and you have to pay to go see this movie, maybe wait until it comes out on streaming or to rent.

I will start off by saying that the visuals for the tarot card characters were awesome. Very creepy but I wish that we had gotten to see a little bit more of them because by the time you saw the character, they were gone again or it was so dark you couldn't really see much. There were some good jump-scares in there as well. This is why I gave it five stars instead of a little bit lower.

The plot of the movie was interesting but when they got around to figuring out what was going on and trying to find a solution of how to fix it, it felt rushed and forced. There was one likable character in the entirety of the film, the other characters were just so-so and a little too cheesy.

I think this movie would have been so much better if it had been rated R and had more gore and blood. How do you have a scene where you saw a woman in half and we don't even get to see the entrails or even any blood at all? Come on now. Most of it is just implied, there was no actual gore. You go to a horror movie and you kind of expect it!

Towards the end of the movie when they were talking about fate and turning fade around to work in your favor, all I could think about was Final Destination. If you cheat death it will come after you again. They felt pretty secure in their solution.

If they make a sequel I don't know that I would go to the theater to see it unless it's rated R. PG-13 really hurt this one for what could have been some pretty stunning visuals.

My teenager was so engrossed in the film he forgot to eat his candy
22 March 2024
This movie was good! Sydney Sweeney did a fantastic job. Some of the characters creep you out right from the start and get progressively worse as the movie goes on. It was gory, it had a few really good jump-scares, and even the plot was interesting. Going into it I thought it was a possession type movie, but it definitely was not. Very creepy though. It gets pretty intense and graphic towards the end so if you are squeamish, be warned. If a teenager forgetting to eat his movie candy because he's so into the film isn't a seal of approval, I don't know what is. Between Nun II and this movie, I think I am all set with ever going near a convent!

We were so confused but it was surprisingly really good!
23 February 2024
The movie starts off as a somewhat normal movie of a filmmaker trying to finish her mother's stop motion animation film before the mother passes away. It continues into a descent into madness as she begins to make her own film with the help of a child who invites herself in when Ella rents a room in an apartment building in order to finish the film.

A grows increasingly grotesque and violent as the movie goes on so if you don't like Gore, this one probably isn't for you. But things really ramped up in the second half of the film and it had us wincing at the screen, going, " Oh what the hell! " And a couple people even left the theater because they couldn't handle the imagery. When it ended we were so confused about what it all meant but we had theories. We were okay that we were confused because it made us think and it helped us to develop our own story about what had happened. I would definitely recommend going to see this.

Far better than I expected it to be

I thought this was just going to be another cheesy camp slasher movie but it was actually really smart and Entertaining. There were some funny moments, but also some jump-scares and a lot of gore! Some of the kills were particularly brutal and the cinematography was really good. Very inventive with the kill methods. The ending felt a little bit rushed. It did kind of keep you guessing until the end as to who the killer was. I had predicted it in a comment on Facebook on the movie page weeks before the movie came out but it had me questioning whether I was right or not the whole time. I was also extremely happy that it did not have a ton of gratuitous sex like most slasher films do because I was able to bring my son to see it. If you like good slasher films I would definitely go see this one!

Wasn't sure, but was pleasantly surprised

I don't get why this has such a low rating and why this movie was not marketed better. It was really good! Right from the get-go the main characters made me super uneasy and it stayed that way through the entire movie. I appreciate it if you jump scares here and there and just the overall creepiness. The twist towards the middle of the movie when things really start ramping up was fantastic and had everybody in the theater gasping and covering their mouths.

I thought the actors did a great job, especially the little kid. The ending was OK, not the best, but not the worst either. I think this movie would have done really well in theaters if they had released it around Halloween time and actually marketed it instead of releasing it on the same weekend as Barbie and Oppenheimer. It was very hard to find it in theaters because it is only showing at limited locations. I would definitely recommend watching it when it comes out to stream.

Slow start but phenomenal acting!
14 May 2023
I've been trying to see this movie for quite a while and finally found a showtime. Sean Patrick Flanery was incredible. He should be winning awards for this role. It was a little slow to start and I was kind of bored for the first 45 minutes or so but it did pick up. It is more of an intellectual/psychological thriller than a scary movie about possession.

There are religious overtones throughout the movie but don't let that deter you. I am completely anti-religion and still found it to be a good movie. There's an important message behind it no matter what you believe in. It's also one of those movies where you start to feel bad for the villain. There was even a point where I shed a couple of tears. I think that was more due to Sean Patrick Flanery's acting being so convincing and emotional. The ending was not what I expected but it worked well. If you can find showtimes in your area I would recommend it!

Just WOW
21 April 2023
Went to opening night tonight and it did not disappoint. This movie has a little bit of everything that a horror movie should have. There was a lot of gore, a lot of scary imagery with the make up and special effects, the tension that you would want out of a scary movie, And a good storyline that tied together a few elements from prior evil dead movies. Everyone in the theater was yelling at the characters on screen at some point. Everyone was cringing at certain points. And at the end everyone cheered and clapped. Just a fantastic movie all around! There are a lot of horror movies popping up right now, it's going to be hard to top to this one for me.

Best not to watch after the first or second season
27 November 2022
I echo the sentiments of many of the reviewer's here. The first season was pretty good. Had a decent plot line, it was fun to watch the characters figure out the mystery of who killed who. But then it started getting really corny and really cheesy. The name of the drugs... Jingle jangle and Fizzle rock? Teenagers sleeping around and living with each other, teenagers are running the town... It seems like the writers forgot that these were supposed to be 15 and 16-year-olds.

After the serial killer nonsense it just went downhill at 100 mph. It went from a teen drama/mystery series to series about a teenage gang, to serial killers, to horror, to musical, to supernatural, to witches. It was like they couldn't decide what genre they wanted this show in. Season five episode 18 was the absolute worst, why were they singing every other sentence? It was so annoying. I can deal with the musical numbers every now and then, Glee was one of my favorite shows, but the singing every other sentence in this weird monotone melody that made absolutely no sense was awful.

I am at the end of season six now because I wanted to give it a full and fair shot, but I just don't understand how it was able to make it this far. I'm glad that the next season is the last and hopefully season seven is more of what season one was as opposed to all of this supernatural witch crap.

That escalated QUICKLY
4 September 2022
The movie started off pretty slow. Once it started ramping up though it definitely moved pretty quickly. I would say probably only the last half an hour was the really creepy part, but it was definitely worth the watch. It was a little hard to follow at certain times because the cameras keep flickering and turning off and you think that it's something wrong with your TV or Internet, but that's the way they have the movie set up. I appreciate it that there were English subtitles and those subtitles included telling us what the words on the doors meant as well so we knew which room they were going into.

You start to hate one of the characters about halfway through and you hope that they die through the rest of the movie. A good "found footage" movie.

My son and I have been looking for horror movies that will actually scare us and this one definitely creeped us out enough to where we had to watch TikTok for a little bit afterwards to take our mind off of it.
