i think you should watch this film
10 April 2006
before i watched this film i asked the people i watched it with to guess what they would rate it out of ten by the time it was over. i said i would give it 8 out of ten and really believed that it would be that good. and i really loved watching it. the fact that i have continued to think about it and enjoy remembering it all day today makes me feel that this has an exceptionally strong core.

it is beautifully paced in a way that i have never really seen before. not in a radically different way but in a way that felt like maybe a cog of this machine was a bit loose and maybe it was shorting out a little somewhere but in the end of the day it still came out the other end so lets not worry about what went wrong.

i feel this film really touched me in a very genuine way. the wee guy was amazing and really quantified an energy that seemed to come very effortlessly to it.

i don't know if this is opening a can of worms but i don't think a man could have made this film and it makes me feel like we, as a general movie audience, lack a stronger female presence in film making.

i know i said id give it eight out of ten and i think i was right. i know I've given it ten out of ten now but, well, maybe the film grew, or I'm wrong but i just think you should watch this film.

really great.

thanks

Buffalo '66 (1998)

my favourite film
30 December 2005
there is so much to say about buffalo 66 and about its two main stars and what it achieved that it hardly seems worth saying. Everyone should see this film. This is what film is about. It is a self contained masterpiece of expression / communication. This needs nothing fancy said about it other than it is a great story. Great stories i think come from great characters and the character depicted in this film are full and alive in a way that you rarely see in film.

I think the most important and greatest achievement of this film is in its writing. There is no line in this film that doesn't feel like the character just came out with it. The amount of play in vincent gallo's dialogue is a joy to see. The people in this film are as real people are.

I love this film. It gives so much and is a pleasure to watch. perfectly weighted and textured beautifully.

I recommend this to everyone. and if you don't like it you are probably evil.

Get Well Soon (2001)

bad
30 December 2005
i think this could be the worst attempt at stylish editing i have ever seen. i felt embarrassed watching it sometimes. i don't mind the film being bad so much but there was a certain smugness about the 'wackyness' of the humour that was extremely off putting. There is nothing new here, even though the writing is packaged as if we have never seen anything like this before. Drawn out supposedly awkward scenes just appear boring and clunky. There were one or two nice scenes with vincent gallo and Monica from friends. A lot of space in the dialogue for them to play with it, probably more due to lack of characterisation than creative freedom. Very poorly made film that feels very arrogant. i wouldn't really recommend this film. I only watched it because i like vincent gallo but even he under performed in this lukewarm disappointment. happy new year.
