The Prophecy (1995)
Ignore the sequels, but this is pretty good.
Good movie in a forgettable sort of way. Give an actor a role as a vampire, angel, or Satan and you will see what they are made of. The writing ranges from so-so to pretty good, the visuals are dark and amazingly compelling, but the acting from Christopher Walken alone is worth the watch. Eric Stoltz, Viggo Mortenson, Amanda Plummer, and Adam Goldberg also turned in great performances.
The highlight of the movie is a brief monologue from Walken, the king of monologues, about what it means being an angel.
This movie feels like a competent mashup of Supernatural and a procedural cop drama. This is the first time I recall seeing angels portrayed in such a way, human yet somewhat avian, detached, and not always very pleasant to deal with.
Invest the time, less than 90 minutes, and you'll enjoy be glad you did.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
If you like star trek, this won't satisfy.
Starfleet officers are apparently now immature, unprofessional, disrespectful, childish, self-indulgent, and emotionally incontinent. They are also foul-mouthed. Basically spoiled toddlers raised by trashy parents. All those good writers who used to write thought provoking and inspiring stories were presumably busy with other things as well. Why does this even bear the Star Trek name? Sonequa Martin Green Saves the Universe Many Times would be a more apt title. It's a shame Anthony Rapp, Sonequa Martin Green, and Michelle Yeoh got suckered into this convoluted, vapid mess. Sorry folks, this is not good enough. It's an embarrassment to the franchise. It makes The Final Frontier look like Shakespeare.
The Mandalorian (2019)
Finally, Star Wars is back!
No silly identity politics, no attempts at political correctness, just a cool character, cool sets, lots of action, amazing special effects. Some people don't like that the crawl isn't there and the music isn't like other Star Wars stories, but I actually prefer it that way because the Mandalorian isn't part of that story. It stands on it's own even if you've never seen Star Wars.
Alien: Covenant (2017)
Garbage.
Lol. Juicy Smallett. Plus a totally CG movie. Not impressed.
