Nightmare Alley (2021)
Too dark to see what's going on
So dark and gloomy I have complained to the cinema that there must be something wrong with their projector. Not I am beginning to think it was supposed to be like that...
Dune (2021)
A missed operunity
Dear god that was dull. Pale washed out colours (ok it was in a dessert). Mumbled and whispered dialogue. Why whisper, the was no one else to hear you? Dramatic music throughout, even when there was not much happening which was often. Looked like it was filmed in a concrete car park. With added sand. The previous version had it's faults but at least it was entertaining. Some people left before the end, out of boredom I would think.
I expect this will bomb and I doubt there will be enough interest for party 2. Probably just as well.
Malignant (2021)
Full on over the top horror
A slow build up but I won't forget the WTF moment for a long long time!
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Was this supposed to be comedy?
Really not sure what this film was supposed to be. If it was supposed to be comedy then no one laughed, not even a chuckle, when I saw it at the cinema. I have heard the finale compared to Ghostbusters, but Ghostbusters was stupid and funny. This was just stupid. It was entertaining I suppose but I lost interest after the first hour when it seemed to loose it's way until the finale.
Princess of Mars (2009)
Pretty good by Asylum standards
A good adaptation of the book, albeit low budget. This is a serious attempt at a film, not like Sharknado etc.
Franklyn (2008)
Baffling
Nicely filmed but I have absolutely no idea what this was about. I like weird stuff but this was lost on me.
The Hallow (2015)
The baby
The baby grizzles throughout the film. It's very annoying.
Mandy (2018)
Absolutely stunning
This is one seriously deranged horror film. The stunning use of colour and the weird metal soundtrack reminded me somewhat of the original Suspiria. Superbly insane performance by Nicholas Cage. The Shining's got nothing on his performance here!
Not for normal people, but if you like your horror on the weird side this is for you.
Daylight's End (2016)
Heavy metal zombie shoot em up
What's not to like? Well it depends just how long you can watch thousands of zombies getting shot. I lost interest long before the end
The Void (2016)
Classic horror
Not sure about the plot but if you love classic 80s style horror then this is for you. Unrelenting hard core horror in the vein of Hellraiser.
Survivor (2015)
Big stars, average film
It would have been tolerable if it wasn't for the one man and his synthesiser music that ran non stop throughout the film
Broken Journey (1948)
Entertaining
Very enjoyable and hilarious in places, although I'm not sure if that was always intentional!
Mamula (2014)
Low budget but compelling
Not what I was expecting from the title. Starts off rather boring as the scene is set but once it gets going it's really rather good. The low budget meant that had to make the most of what was available and they did this admirably. I found the storyline intriguing. Worth a watch if you fancy something a bit different.
Saint Maud (2019)
Rather dull but just held my Interest
I really can't understand the rave reviews from the critics. Rather dull and slow moving and not at all scary. The final few minutes provide a fitting end and winds the story up rather nicely.
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Didn't like the filming technique
First third of the film mostly in very pale blue, middle bit yellow and orange, end bit combination of both. Dark, grainy and washed out colour spoiled it for me. And shakycam, but I guess you would expect that.
