Napoleon (2023)
Incredibly Disappointing
This movie has no character development, a boring/disjointed plot, poor/emotionless acting, and is entirely bereft of any historical accuracy.
They decide to skip over many of the important events of his life and turn it into a myopic look at the romance of Napoleon and Josephine. However, even spending 2/3rds of the movie on just that part of his life they still somehow make it uninteresting. If you do not know the historical background you also will likely get lost.
There was so much material they could have used to make this an incredible movie. Napoloen's required no embellishment. Huge lost opportunity and the most disappointing movie of my life.
Extraction 2 (2023)
Great action photography, terrible storyline
*Slight Spoiler Alert*
The action scenes are great and even more the photography. However, the characters are seriously undeveloped. I didn't care about any of them. Even the main character. They need to make him a real protagonist.
The storyline also makes little sense. There were so many unbelievable aspects of the plot. The guy can barely walk and 6 weeks later he's Superman. Turning a European capital into a war zone with no police or military showing up. Had some promise but fell short. They could have made it so much better by creating some type of real connection between the characters.
Gentefied (2020)
Interesting but too predictable
I like the idea of the story and the family dynamics. The woke themes were a bit too pervasive. At one point an activist from the community protests a neighborhood restaurant for trying to advertise to others outside the community. What is wrong with someone outside your neighborhood patronizing a restaurant? Apparently it is traitorous to have any interaction with gentrifiers (aka "non-Latinos"). In another scene the artistic character is at a museum and makes the comment that the artist of a piece is probably a white male so that's "problematic". They also continually vilify any member of their community that has left and become successful. They too are apparently traitors. Why would you not be happy for someone that succeeded?
Reservation Dogs (2021)
Characters not captivating
I did not connect with these characters. They seem like punk kids - stealing and generally destroying their community. I wish they would have setup their story a bit more so you understood and could relate.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
Dumpster fire of a movie
WW1984 is the perfect end to 2020. Loved the first one but this was utter garbage. Terrible plot, terrible directing. I love the actors but they couldn't save this one.
