Goliath (2016)
Intriguing Series
Not understanding the lower ratings here. This series is fantastic with unexpected twists and turns. There is nothing typical, boring or predictive about about Goliath. Acting is terrific. The writing just as good if not better. I was hooked from season one episode one. Season three has a Black Mirror (British eclectic series) vibe about it. I have yet to view the entire season three and season four. I am betting they will not disappoint. I will probably re-watch the series - I'm sure there are some details I may have missed. Also, the subtle connections between seasons two and three provide an added twist. I highly recommend Goliath.
Candy (2022)
A bit "Twin Peakish"
This was a good series. An authentic visual depiction of the late 70s/early 80s. An authentic description of domestic routine and boredom experienced by these women. Jessica Biel is fabulous. Reminded me of the 90s series, Twin Peaks.
Anatomy of a Scandal (2022)
Terrific series
Anatomy of a Scandal is well acted and well written. It is a very engaging story. It had my attention from beginning to end. I highly recommend it. The only part I thought odd, was that "Holly" and "Kate" look like two completely different people. (Of course the actors are).
Rescued by Ruby (2022)
A must see for all dog lovers
This movie is a wonderful feel good movie. Perfect for all dog and animal lovers. I've volunteered in shelters and fostered/adopted strays. I was cheering for Ruby the entire time. A great family movie.
Help! (1965)
A tough review to write
As a life long Beatle fan, It pains me to give this negative review. Maybe this was entertaining for the era in which it was made. It's really just . . . . stupid. The music was/is, of course, great. The Beatles were great. The plot line was ridiculous. The only thing that could've improved this movie was for more songs to be played by the fab four. I've read that John, Paul, George & Ringo were continuously stoned during the filing of Help! Well, if I had to act in this movie, I'd want to be stoned too.
The Beatles: Get Back (2021)
Mesmerising
This is for the avid Beatles fan. I loved watching the music being created. Watching Paul sit there with his base & compose Get Back - from ground zero. Wow wow wow. They talk about how there was no leadership after "Mr. Epstein" died. (I found it very endearing that they refer to him as Mr. Epstein rather than Brian.). Someone had to step up & be a leader. That someone was Paul. Thank goodness he did. We'd be missing out on a lot of good music if he had not stepped up. These sessions - the joking around and comradery - priceless for Beatles fans. Again, this is for the life long Beatles fan. A casual fan might not be as enthralled. Thank you Peter Jackson!!!
McCartney 3,2,1 (2021)
Music, music, music
I've been a fan of the Beatles' & Paul's music since I was 11 years old (1976). I know almost all of the songs, and I loved learning the creative process of the songs. I also loved hearing the separate elements of songs, ie: the bass alone, drums alone, etc & the various sound effects used. So awesome. Paul was influenced by so many different musical genres. This is a fascinating documentary. I will watch it more than once.
Atypical (2017)
Entertaining Spruced Up After School Special
***SPOILERS***. For those on here old enough to remember the After School Specials on tv, this seemed like a spruced up version of that. It was funny and entertaining. Casey's angst about her sexuality was portrayed very realistically - as was her anxiety about going to UCLA for track. The nature of someone with autism was also well portrayed. Paige was hilariously over the top, as was Zahid. I felt the dad could've used a little more character development. The ending-All of the main characters had a plan, a future, something "to do" -- except for the mom. As an empty nester mom, that made me so sad for her.
Anti Corona Virus (2020)
So bad, it's funny
The acting was the worst I had ever seen. It was laughable. My husband walked in the room while it was on and said the acting seemed like that in a home made "adult film" - without the "adult parts". 🤣🤣🤣
Polar Storm (2009)
Funny
I was on the phone when watching this movie. I looked up and glimpsed the scene in which people were being "electrocuted" in the streets. I had a good laugh and shut the movie off.
Blended (2014)
So Bad It's Good. 🤣
Watched this by accident. It came on after another program had ended. It was a winter day, 4 degrees outside and snowing. So . . . I sat there and watched this. My first thought was "How hokey and cliche" it was. Then, as the typical, uninspiring and unoriginal diallog continued, I couldn't stop laughing. Then, it dawned on me . . . "IT'S SO BAD IT'S GOOD!" 🤣😂😂
Hanna (2019)
Season 2 - ???
I'd have to agree with a lot of the reviews here. Seems like the writers of season 2 took the same drugs they gave they young girls at that training compound. And... mid season 2 - I just lost interest and stopped watching.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Outstanding
This series was outstanding. Phenomenal story and acting. It keeps the viewer interested throughout the entire series. The story does not become cliche or lose steam at any time. Anya Taylor-Joy plays the role of Beth Harmon to perfection. I highly recommend this series. It's been quite a long time since I've watched such an excellent series.
10.0 Earthquake (2014)
Bad acting perfected.
A cliche of bad acting and stereotypes. I knew this was going to be awful after two minutes, but I pressed on. I was exhausted and had nothing else to do. This ranks in the five worst movies I have ever seen, no - maybe three.
Killing Eve (2018)
Comer Kills It
Jodie Comer is fabulous in this role. What an intriguing, unique character. You just can't stop thinking about Villanelle. I've never seen a psychopath villain character portrayed so brilliantly. The difference accents, the clothes, the body language, the mannerisms, the facial expressions - just wow. Another plus is that the viewer is treated to various beautiful and cultural cities in Europe.
That said, the writers have lost their way. The show sinks after the third or fourth episode in season one. There is no story line or plot point. There is no character development. I'm going to stop watching. The writers have not lived up to the talent that Jodie Comer can deliver. I hope to see her in many other future roles.
Chernobyl (2019)
Excellent
I knew one minute into this that this series was a well done, quality piece of story telling. Just excellent. No "Hollywood" type of gimmicks. Just intelligent story telling. This the best mini series I have ever watched. Ever.
Shameless (2011)
Addicted to this show
Shameless effing rocks. I am watching it on Netflix - I'm on season 4. It is not predictable, which is true of many shows. The acting is genius. I got a kick out of the "mini Fargo reunion" between two of the actors. I'm from Chicago (not the South Side), and they pretty much nailed what life is like as a poverty stricken family in the city. Nice to see Joan Cusack (from the Chicago area) acting in the show. It's a fabulous, intelligent show. Comedy/drama at its finest. Love. This. Show.
Lilies (2007)
Awesome series.
I loved this series. I wish there were a season 2. I was totally drawn into the Moss family dynamics - what a feisty, real family. I think the show accurately captures the images and the "feel" for the time (post WWI Liverpool, England.) It is 'raw and gritty', 'loving and sweet' & 'dramatic and comical' - just like real life. Nothing here is sugar coated (except for the candies). I highly recommend this to anyone who likes period dramas.
