Dusk Series (2017)
Looks straight out of a high school dama class
I coundl't even get past the first 3 minutes of the tailer let alone actually watch it, I'm going to guess the people who rated this a 9 did so because they are probably in it LOL
No disrespect to the people making or acting in this production but you guys and girls need to spend a bit more time on your sound, everything was tinny and over the top.
Keep trying, one day you'll get there.
6 Underground (2019)
Classic Reynolds with over the top Baysims.
A real edge of the seat film with some amazing action scenes, the first 1/4 of the film felt like one long car chase. The way you find out about the characters is a bit odd but seems to work well for this film.
Some seriously daredevil stuntwork and quite a few giggles and stunning cimematography make this one of my instant favourites.
Ready or Not (2019)
Funny and well worth a watch.
The Mrs and I really enjoyed this film, the ONLY reason it didn't get a 10 from us is the 'Omini Domini' fake latin schpeal, it might have been an attempt at a joke but it fell flat.
Some great laugh out loud moments and the horror effects are spot on.
The ending was just brilliant, well done to the film makers for keeping us entertained throughout the whole film.
Bundy and the Green River Killer (2019)
Ted Bundy and all the other stiffs
This film had so much promise for myself and my Mrs (who has an interest in forensic psycology and serial killers) but the pace of the story in this film matched grass growing, in fact I think I might have enjoyed watching someone pour syrup onto pancakes more. The acting was stiff and emotionless to the point where the dead bodies showed more emotion than the live ones, I only watched it until the end so that I could be sure that I wasn't going to miss something important, I didn't.
I won't spoil the film for any true die hard Bundy or Green River fans but for the casual watcher this is based on a true story about a detective working at the very start of Profiling and DNA, a lot of talking and a modicome of suspense until he finds the truth.
If you want my advice, go read a book about the real killers and how they were captured and give this film a very wide miss.
Kin (2018)
Underrated, Sci-Fi Drama with more emphasis on Drama than Sci-Fi
Nice to see a science fiction film which mostly revolves arround the people instead of just the weapons and CGI, an all round enjoyable (albeit a little on the slow side) film with an interesting ending.
Some of the characters lacked depth but given their roles in the film I guess they really didn't need to be deep, Franco doing his usual bad guy stuff is well balanced against Quaid doing his good guy stuff.
2036 Origin Unknown (2018)
Well acted and an interesting story but graphics straight out of Barberella!
Katy did a great job and the whole premise of the film was entertaining throughout but I felt cheated by the Barberella like GFX, I had high hopes for this film but overall it left me somewhet dissapointed. Like so many of the films today this one left a lot to be desired and a GFX budget that could buy more than a few pints in the local pub would have helped, heck I've seen better in Joe90 and Captain Scarlet from when I was a child.
Whoever did the space and Mars GFX needs to spend some time on youtube watching real Space and Mars rover footage to fully understand just how wrong they got it.
If you don't care about HQ GFX but do enjoy a Sci-Fi film then this is right up your warp drive.
San Andreas (2015)
Utter Twaddle (desperatly trying to avoid spoilers)
When they did the first scene of the woman driving along the roads not paying attention I thought this film might stand a chance by the way they did it but then the Helicopter performed a physics defying stunt and it just went downhill from there.
Some of the acting was OK Some of the Computer Generated scenes even seemed to be almost real.
But anyone who gave this film more than a two score is either a complete fool or a total fan of Dwayne who probably just did this for the money as the character he played was so badly written and unrealistically lucky that he couldn't have done it for the challenge.
I've seen much better films with a score of 4!
I Origins (2014)
Short film plot line turned into big screen feelarama indulgence.
Just finished watching I Origins and all in all it's an OK film but I seriously had to force myself to get to the half way point without turning it off, after that it was interesting enough to keep me watching but dragged on much like a millipede with no legs until the inevitable and totally obvious conclusion. It's almost worth not waiting around for the scene at the end of the credits but then you probably wouldn't see the whole point of the film if you skipped it.
As a film labelled Drama / Sci-fi I would definitely use Drama in letters 50 foot high and Sci-fi in the small print you find on legal documents.
Skyline (2010)
Not your average sci-fi
I don't care that there are a few 'technical' errors made or that the cinematography isn't what everyone expects, this film breaks the mould and stands apart from any other sci-fi for many years.
If you like to be different and want to watch a film through before making any kind of judgement on it then this is the film for you, there were at least 6 times during this film I though 'no way' and I was thrilled from the get go until the ending which left me gagging for more of the same.
I'm not going to spoil it for anyone so all I will say is watch it and THEN make up your mind if you like it or not and DON'T go to the cinema expecting gone with the wind :P
King Kong (2005)
Characters never felt so well portrayed
What can I say that already hasn't been said...
I've just finished watching this film and a bottle of wine and 1/2 a box of tissues later, I want to watch it again! Peter Jackson has done a fine job yet again, this has to be the remake of all remakes.
Naomi Watts, Jack Black (yes I'm stunned) and Adrien Brody make up a superb and totally believable cast but the bell of the ball for me is Andy Serkis. Forget his portrayal as the little green feller in the ring saga, this is without a doubt in my mind his best work yet! I didn't even realise it was him playing the cook until the credits let alone the starring role. Never in my life has an ape made my cry buckets with affection, and I hope that my tear ducts can survive for many more enthralling performances.
Sit back, grip the arms of your chair and prepare to be reduced to a quivering wreck, King Kong gets my vote for film of the decade!
The Crow (1994)
One of the most committed films of the century
Brandon Lee - the Passion of the role, the empathy of the persona, the total dedication to the character - I have never seen a film where the actors believe the role they are portraying as totally as this film.
My deepest respect to him and his family!
I have watched this film on three different occasions and each time I noticed the different inflections on the main character - What would you feel had you survived death only to find your true love had died horribly after your final torment had ended - I for one would have behaved as Eric Draven did.
Revenge has never had a better portrayal!
Doom (2005)
Not a bad 1st attempt
Not a bad 1st attempt!
I have seen many films made from games and I have to say this isn't as bad as some of the reviews make out...
I really enjoyed the FPS section of the film (wish it had more) and the mutants were in keeping with the original doom game! I fully expect a better Doom 2 to hit the big screens very soon as this is a franchise that is begging for attention!
The Rock was wasted addition to the film as he detracted from the genre however he makes for an interesting good guy turned bad guy in an action movie (lets face it this is an action movie after all).
All in all not a bad attempt!
