Pedro e Inês (2018)
Obrigada, António Ferreira!
As a portuguese I have to say this movie made me proud! I loved the performance of Custódia Galego and Diogo Amaral, but in general the acting is not too impressive. On the other hand the plot is very well thought.
The way they expose this love story, based in true facts, is impressive, not predictable at all. And all the references and connections with Fernando Pessoa, one of the best Portuguese writers, just bring extra life to this movie.
3 different realities, the same love story, and a tragic end, like it was in fact, well mixed up into a beautiful production that deserves my aplausse!
A Star Is Born (2018)
Finally something more real...
This movie is definitively great in many aspects, yet a little bit overrated in my opinion.
Lady Gaga did an excelent job, not only as a singer but also as an actress. I was suprised when, at the final credits, I found out that Bradley Cooper was also the director, apart from being one of the main characters, Jackson Maine, who he plays very well.
The plot is good, but nothing like the connection between Ally and Jackson: Gaga and Cooper give life to a real, not perfect, really touching relationship, that might make you emotional a couple of times!! Even if you are not usually into romance it might suprise you...And if you love Lady Gaga's voice or good vocals in general, go for it!
At the end of the movie you might think "Hey. Just wanted to take another look at you", because you'll probably want to see it again!
BlacKkKlansman (2018)
CRAZY and INCREDIBLE indeed
Awesome movie, based in amazing and crazy true facts, sparkled with smart funny parts. Not my favorite type of edition but I enjoyed it anyway.
The last 30 minutes are gold! The end so toutching and alarming, worth the watch for sure and I loved the soundtrack! I would like to say one more time "all power to all the people".
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
EXTRAORDINARILY NICE!
I don't even know where to start...Well, maybe from the beginning. I remember being a little girl and listening to this CDs my parents seemed to like very much and without even realizing it I fell in love with Queen's songs at a very young age...
I love and admire Freddie Mercury and the band and I was so excited about this movie that I was already expecting it to disappoint me, but not at all! How could it be possible with such a tremendous soundtrack, right? Despite the fact I personally shiver with all of them, everybody loves at least one of the Queen's masterpieces because they are so versatile. I think they cover a lot of genres and somehow create their own, that's why they're so "universal". It's unbelievable how every songs they created are so great and powerful, especially the ones written by Mercury, he's a genius! If I could only listen to one single band for the rest of my life it would certainly be Queen and if I had to choose one music to play on repeat forever It would probably be "Bohemian Rhapsody".
And now about the movie:
The special 21st Century Fox intro is enough to understand that the next 130 minutes will be worth it. In my opinion the cast and the whole team did a great job recreating these legends that will LIVE FOREVER in our hearts!
Of course they didn't tell us everything about Freddie Mercury, that would take a lot more than 2 hours. This movie is NOT a documentary, can anybody find critics some biographical movie to love? "Bohemian Rhapsody" tell us Fred's impressive life story, crossing of course the amazing path of Queen, and yes, it has some mistakes, but I believe the major goal is to keep you entertained and you will be! Although I did truly enjoy the final part more, all the scenes have something special and will catch your attention.
Be prepared to get a little, if not a lot, emotional at the incredible part when Mercury finds out he has AIDS. No spoiler alert needed, because if you know a little bit about his story you already knew this "King" died because of this virus. However, this scene is so well done and thought that it will be as touching as if you were finding out for the first time!
I'm sure I will watch this again, maybe even more than once, and probably make my children watch it with me in honor of their grandparents and as my personal tribute to Queen.
In fact, the reason why I don't give it a 9 is because the merit for the lyrics and songs goes to the band, and that's what make the movie so good and I also believe they could do even better with the HUGE inspiration that Queen's story is!
La vita è bella (1997)
This movie is more than beautiful...
There is everything in this absolutely stunning piece of art, for real...War/History, Music, Drama, Romance, Horror, Comedy...
Inspired by Rubino Salmoni's experience, this is for me, undoubtedly, the best movie ever made told with the backdrop of WWII.
When you watch "Life is Beautiful" for the first time you might wonder if those weren't one of the most beautiful 116 minutes of your entire life. Then, every other time you watch it you pay attention to something you hadn't noticed before, some little but precious detail. The more I shearch about it the more I fall in love with which is already the movie of my life!
It seems like each scene was perfectly studied to make us want to be more like the main character. Unique Guido Orefice loves and protects his family with all of his heart, and amazes everybody with his kindness, optimism, courage and intellect. No one could be better to play this enormous role than the director and co-writer of the movie himself, not only Italy's, as he is called in the trailer, but World's "treasure", Roberto Benigni.
I could watch it a hundred times more and watch a lot of other very powerful movies, "Life is beautiful" will always be this infinitely special MASTERPIECE to me... This movie taught me that we are the ones who can give our lives a special meaning, also that the beauty of life hides in the little things and of course that "la vita è bella"!
