Shôgun: Anjin (2024)
It deserves 10 star, but...
Oh, come on?! Why are the characters are not speaking portuguese? We are in 2024. It's simply stupid using english when the characters are speaking another language. Are the english native so stupid that they can't read subtitles? If that so, what are they doing when the japanese are speaking? Come on, FX! Tou guys nailed so many details; to fail in a such basic aspect is frustrating, specially for me, a portguese native speaker. That is the only reason I am rating this with 9 stars.
Regarding the setting and cinematics, whoa, outstanding! I have nothing to add. Just perfect. Clothes, architecture, everything about Japan is magnificent.
Finally, I must mention that the actors are plenty skillful on their craft.
I'll watch it until the end. I recommend you do the same. It will definitely worth it.
A Coleção Invisível (2012)
Life changing experience--I meant it!
The way that two characters (I'm not saying who) connected felt a bit off, a bit strange to me. However, I understand that this needed to happen so the plot would move on. I accept that, and it was the only problem.
Okay. That said, now let's talk about (without spoilers, of course) the philosophical epiphany that watching this made me feel. I literally changed my view of the world, of how people can be different, how each one sees and feels everything in a different way, and, in the end, what matters is the value we put on the things we love. It's all about perception, individual subjectivity, and, most of all, it became clear to me that each one of us live in our idiosyncratic private world, shaped solely by our personal perspectives.
I wish I could say more, but this is a type o movie that can't be spoiled. The full experience is pivital. Nevertheless, I must accentuate how truly astonished I am. I hope this masterpiece gets more views; it's a waste that it had be seen so little.
Midnight Mass (2021)
The definition of perfection for me.
For my taste for fiction--and I am not exaggerating-- this IS perfection.
Such as the other two TV shows Flanagan
created (Hill and Bly), Midnight Mass is deep, entertaining, thought-provoking, complex, meticulously written.
I admit: If there is a man I will watch EVERY SINGLE THING he creates, this man is Mike Flanagan. He is officially my favorite TV writter and director of all time!
In addition to that, I also have the obligation to praise the OUTSTANDING acting and visuals. Congratulations to everyone involved.
The meaning of my life is to watch and read pieces of arts like this. So poetic. So philosophical. So tight of a plot. So intriguing world building. With such realistic characters. With so many thematic rhymes and great foreshadowings.
A marvelous masterpiece. Nuff said.
I'm in awe.
Midnight Mass: Book VII: Revelation (2021)
Perfection.
Such as the other two TV shows Flanagan created, this thing I have just watched is absolute perfection. If there is a man I will watch EVERY SINGLE THING he creates, this man is Mike Flanagan. He is officially my favorite TV writter and director EVER.
I must also praise the OUTSTANDING acting and visuals.
Period.
I am in awe.
The Queen's Gambit (2020)
Do yourself a favor: watch it!
It is simple as that: If you still haven't watched it, just do it. Trust me.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
PERFECTION!
I can't recall the last time I felt this thrill! This episode pay offs all the harms the sequel did to me! To be quite honest, I have no words to describe what I've felt. This is probably the BEST Star Wars piece out there.
Hey, Disney, give to Dave motherfuc**r Filoni everything regarding Star Wars! THIS man knows what he's doing--he freaking does!
And, well, I guess I don't have to say anything about Rosario Dawson's acting and the work from the production team, am I right? OMFG, they simply nailed it! MAAAAN!
I'm still in shock and so happy. Thank you, Disney. This was simply perfection.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Best fiction piece I've got this year so far.
I don't want to say much because I don't want to spoil anything, but, man, Flanagan is simply the best guy we have nowadays in his field. The show is so meticulously written and directed that, honestly, I have no words to describe. It is geniously done. Simple as that.
If you want to have emotions evoked, this is THE show for you. Lots and lots of emotions. The actors are great and deliver everything in a--if I may--perfectly splendid way.
I almost never come here to write a review, but this time I felt morally compelled to do so, because the grade the show is having so far is not fair at all. It deserves AT LEAST an 8.5. However, IMHO, the true grade is 11. 10 is not enough. It is not.
Oh, boy, this Haunting anthology is my favorite thing ever from the genre, and I suppose it is too in my top 10 of every fictions ever.
I can't recommend it enough. If you haven't yet, just watch it. (And do take your time. It has a slow pace--but for good reasons.) So. . .just trust me, and watch it.
Joker (2019)
This MUST change the industry!
I really, really hope that hero movie producers get inspired by the film, so they start creating drama masterpieces like this. I'm done with goofy plots and characters! This movie has already become a legend! A must watch for everyone--fan or not of the hero genre. This is the best movie of the year, and both Todd Phllips and Joaquim Phoenix deserve the Oscar. Nuff said.
Game of Thrones: The Bells (2019)
The Ice and Fire Redemption!
It's clear that D&D are not great writers when they don't have a primary font to rely on. However, we all know that George told them the final arc of all major characters--which is exactly what we saw today. So, despite the tragic path D&D traveled to get here, now that they can use the info George told them, we're seeing Game of Thrones becoming Game of Thrones again. All the concept of the Song of Ice and Fire is exploding (sorry for the pun) in this episode. The good Dark Fantasy that always had been--mainly in the first seasons.
For those who don't agree with Dany's arc: just watch the show/read the books again. She always wanted to do the good, yes. But her thirst for the throne ALWAYS have been the major thing on her life. Now that she saw that everything blew away (she lost dragons, her best friend got her head chopped off, her closest allies betrayed her, and clearly Jon--the way things were going--would end up with the throne. because of what we saw since the first or second episode of the season: in short, she has nothing left). In addition to that, let's remember that she has history of mental illness on her family and let's also remember the Targaryen's theme: FIRE AND BLOOD. Her family conquered Westeros this way, She woudn't bee different. Finally, she always claimed to clean the world of the tyrants, but afterall she always have been one.
Perfect episode. The core concept of the show and books perfectly explored. Lots of promises delivered. Character arcs ending with coherence. Good. Very good.
I'm really happy, especially because I was finding the season awful until now.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Absolutely perfection
I can't remembrer if I ever reviewed anything here on IMDB, but this tv show just obligates me to do it.
I don't want to speak much, because I don't to spoil anything for you. So, well, if I had to say something about this series is that it is perfect. Perfect. I swear I tried to find flaws, however I coundn't find any. I mean it! The plot, the way the story is told, the characters, the ambience, the acting, the effects, the screen play, the music, the pacing, the dialogues... everything, everything perfect!
This is a must watch tv show. And doesn't matter if you're or not a horror fan. Not at all. I would say that the scary thing is just adjacent. The core, the main theme here is pure drama, surrounded by tons of reflexive stuff. Hard psychology and philosophy, I would say.
Despite been a huge Fantasy and Sci-Fi fan, if someone asked me what's the best tv show ever, I would say this one without a doubt -- even it don't belonging to my favorire genres.
Magnificent, outstanding writing! Simple as that!
