Brooklyn Lobster (2005)
Superbly Done
Brooklyn Lobster, poignant story about a man's love for his work, his family and his traditions. My wife and I enjoyed the film immensely and should be seen by all. The acting was genuine and both Danny Aiello and Jane Curtin should be applauded for the fact that they participated for the love of it, for a project they believed in, rather than for the almighty dollar. I especially appreciated the performance of Henry Yuk who I grew up with in the old neighborhood on Avenue J. The movie brings out the best in what people are. After the movie, Kevin Jordan held a Q&A session and those who watched the film gained a better appreciation for the family and the struggles they endured.
King Kong (2005)
2 + hours of special effects was too much.
What could have been a fabulous film, ended up being a disappointment. Too many special effects that took away from the story of Kong. The film came off as a personal statement for the director and his special effects crew -(we can outdo what has been done before). Kong was superb. He had real human like body language and emotion. The acting was amateurish at best. Jack Black is best served doing comedy, Oh, was this supposed to be one? Also, did I really come to see prehistoric carnivors eat up more than half the film. The pre-release hype convinced me to see the film. Quite frankly, just rent the DVD of 1933's Hong Kong and Jurassic Park.
