The City's Edge (1983)
a film that stands out from the rest

A visual masterpiece, Ken Quinnell is a god among directors, he brings out Hugo Weavings finest performance as Andy, a man who moves to a boardinghouse to become a writer as he tries to come to terms with his fathers death. It is in this place he forms relationships with Jim (Mark Lee), Jack (Tommy Lewis) and Laura (Katrina Foster). A beautifully poignant drama with brilliant performances that shows the darker side of Sydneys underground, filled with murder, suicide, lust and intrigue. Fans of the book will certainly not be disappointed, and those who haven't yet read it will be inspired by the hope of redemption for Jim. This is one film you should definitely not miss, the finest in Australian cinema, and possibly the rest of the world.
