Tulsa King (2022)
Surprisingly Amazing
I've always liked Sylvester Stallone. He's funny, can pull off tense drama with ease and has always been easy on the eyes. But the performance in this series is amazing. He is mesmerizing in this role! But he couldn't carry the show for long in his own. Fortunately he doesn't have to.
The supporting cast are engaging and well developed. The relationships between them and with Stallone's character give the show an overall feel that is reminiscent of SoA or the Sopranos. You find yourself rooting for him and his crew, even though they aren't good guys.
In summary, the concept of dropping a Mafia capo in Tulsa Oklahoma provides lots of opportunity for humor. Meanwhile, the drama that spins out in the lives of all involved keeps you wanting more. Kudos Mr Stallone. I'm hooked.
Through the Glass Darkly (2020)
Underrated in my opinion
So many didn't like this, but I loved it. It did start off a bit slow, but the twist actually surprised me and that rarely happens. If you like film noir and stories that make you think this is definitely one to try. If you're looking for bubble gum for the brain (and we all do sometimes) look elsewhere.
The Practice: Police State (2004)
Compelling and horrifying
The torture of a suspect and realistic ending that didn't give the viewer a happy ending makes for great television. But now I need a little Golden Girls to get the sadness out of my sister.
Fatman (2020)
Not Your Mama's Christmas Movie
This movie had me laughing the whole way thru. Grumpy Santa, Dark hit man, bratty kid and the government come together to make a darkly funny and somehow heartwarming flick. No, it's not high art. It's simple, good fun. Mel Gibson does a fantastic job and Walton Goggins pulls off another darkly disturbing character with his usual flair. Ignore the nay sayers and give this one a try!
Numb3rs: Prime Suspect (2005)
Better than the review indicate
The drama of a kidnapping mixed with the family drama and the interesting math relations to life make this a much better episode than the reviews indicate. And Neil Patrick Harris wasn't a detractor for me as he was for some. I knew he looked familiar but didn't even click on who he was until reading the reviews.
Tenet (2020)
3 hours I can't get back
I just got home after losing 3 hours of my life to this movie. My head and stomach hurt from the deafening level of the action and music. The sound is so loud you can't even hear all of the dialogue. Of course I doubt that would have helped. The scientific plot holes and overall poor execution of a great premise left me annoyed and confused. Please save yourself the misery and pass on this one.
Howard the Duck (1986)
Goofy family fun!
I watched this againfor the first time in years today. It's such a fun movie. Haters need to lighten up
The Christmas Chronicles (2018)
A new holiday favorite!
A slightly grouch Santa, kids in turmoil odd little elves and a prison concert. How can you go wrong?
