Vanderpump Rules (2013)
What a bunch of drunken fools!
It's sad to see that this show has been on the air for 10 years and more than 200 episodes. I stopped on the channel for a few minutes, then moved on. Same thing in each episode: Immature, nasty people who drink too much and behave badly. They think they are stars and that their lives are interesting. Instead they are self-absorbed people who are doing nothing with their lives. The drama is all contrived - scripted and fake, fake, fake. It was one thing when the series started, but these people are now entering their 40s. It's just not OK. Change the channel. Turn off your TV set and go outside. Bravo is a network that keeps their pathetic series going far too long.
The Dead Files (2011)
The Same Thing Over and Over (and over)
Sometimes when a show has been on too long it falls into a series of ruts. The dialog is exactly the same - Steve says the same scripted lines in each episode. Guess what? Attics and basements are scary. If you say they're haunted, people believe it. Every staircase is dangerous because some dead person flings people down the stairs. Some have suffered severe injuries. What is going on in the house? The exact same list in every episode: seeing shadow figures, hearing disembodied voices, etc. I'm sure they producers give people a checklist to fill out. Everyone in the original property owner's family died of various common diseases before the age of antibiotics. If the property is in the South, then there are spirits of slaves. In the North? Native American spirits. Everyone is at risk of being killed by the dead. And on and on and on...The only break from the routine is when Amy Allen proclaims that aliens are coming to the house. If you like to keep your TV on for background sound, this show is perfect. The very brief follow-ups at the end of the show are frequently that the people haven't found anyone to help them yet and the activity continues. Truth: I often fast forward to the "Reveal" at the end. You don't miss much by doing that.
Angels Among Us (2014)
Long Island Medium in a Different Form
We have a New York Italian mother with a long-suffering husband. She has an amazing "gift" that allows her to give messages from departed loved ones. She has people come to her home for private readings, and also goes out to do group readings. Often when out in public (e.g., shopping) her face changes as she is surprised by a message for someone nearby. Her messages are all benign and ease the guilt and grief of those who hear them. Sound familiar? The only differences are that Rosie is less abrasive, her appearance is more mainstream, and she calls the dearly departed Guardian Angels instead of "Spirit." I binge watched the single season. It's sweet, warm and fuzzy.
