The Originals (2013)
The vampire business is getting so complicated these days
Do you remember the good old days when you could kill a Vampire with Sunlight, with a Wooden Stake, with Silver, with Fire or by tearing its head off. These days are long gone. Today we have vampires that are immortal or better originals. These days we mix Vampires with werewolves and witches. I was already used to see Vampires fighting werewolves since "Underworld", but now for the fun of making it just more complicated, lets put also witches in a vampire movie. I wish I had a handbook of all the new rules that now applies for this series. If you are not seeing every episode you are just lost about what's going on. Despite of my confusion I liked the Originals.
Hostages (2013)
My name is Dr. Ellen Sanders and and today is the longest day of my life...
Yes,it reminds me of 24. Do you remember Jack Bauer saying: "Right now, terrorists are plotting to assassinate a presidential candidate. My wife and daughter have been targeted. And people that I work with, may be involved in both. I'm federal agent Jack Bauer, and today is the longest day of my life". For Dr. Ellen Sanders this will be the longest two weeks of her life and for her family too. Slow start but getting better and better. Of course the premise can work for an entire season despite what others might say. Every character is interesting and Toni Collette and Dylan McDermott are great. Dr. Sanders is playing Chess with terrorists, I look forward to it.
The Purge (2013)
What would John Wayne say about this Movie?
In his Playboy interview from May 1971, Wayne stated he considered High Noon "the most Un-American thing I've ever seen in my whole life". Like many others I was surprised by all the bad reviews after the release. So I was wondering why so many dislike "the Purge" or the concept behind it. I can see that it's not so easy to be an American and feel not affected or thing no way this will be in the so near future (2022). But then again you living in a country with laws like "stand your ground". Imagine the homeless man (Target/Hostage) in the movie would have an an actual name an the name would be Trayvon Martin. So I would say don't go by all the negative reviews. This movie is really good.
A Dark Truth (2012)
What a waste of talent!
A-List Actors in a B-Movie, what a waste of talent. Damian Lee is not well known for directing, writing or as Producer of good Movies. How is it possible that Forest Whitaker and Andy Garcia even know Lee? And how come they play in this movie? Only explanation they must have lost a bet or something. I mean we have seen this from Cuba Gooding Jr. Best Actor in a Supporting Role 1996 and since then played in several disappointing Films. Same is true for Nicolas Cage, Oscar-winning actor who played several B- Movies. And now Garcia and Whitaker. Don't actors have agents? And shouldn't they protect them from movies like this? There are already too much bad movies out there, there is no need to do more.
Seeking Justice (2011)
Another Cage B-Movie
From the start it was clear this is a B-Movie and the Story is predictable. Guy Pearse did a great job in the movie unfortunately this counts not for the rest of the cast. I have seen many of the rest of the cast in other Movies but they just didn't play at their best here. Nicolas Cage is a great actor and did many movies that I liked very much, but I ask my self why does he so many B-Movies in the recent years. And what is even more mysterious, who keeps going to his endless string of ridiculous B-movies. Compared to Steven Seagal movies has Cage still a theatrical release (the film had a very limited theatrical release)and goes not straight–to-DVD.
The Good Wife (2009)
The good Wife a very good series
There are so many TV series out there. Some of them have a good pilot, often because they find a good director for the pilot but then they take someone who hasn't much talent and the show suck right after the start. But this is not the case in this drama. I watched it from the beginning and was never disappointed. They have also different Directors but somehow they deliver always a very good episode. The casting is excellent, you will find fine acting, intelligent and coherent story lines and always a subtle humor. The developments of the characters are great and that includes even the minor characters. I just can hope this will go on forever.
Salmon Fishing in the Yemen (2011)
You can't say it's a bad Movie
Dra-com-rom: Dra-ma, Com-edy and Rom-ance.For my just a new Genre. It's often in life that the mix of something that we already well know makes the difference. Sort of improvement that achieves a completely unique result. Some call it invention. I call it magic. The mix of three different Genres makes it not easy to compartmentalise. It's like a cup of tea with milk and whiskey. What if you don't like fishing? Sure then you'll not be very much attracted by the title. I really don't like fishing but the movie isn't about fishing. for me the movie is about life, about thinks that can happen in a ordinary life and about the choices you make. Last but not least: the cast is good as well.
Hamilton: I nationens intresse (2012)
The Swedish James Bond
Very nice movie from Sweden. I had a quick look at the critics written before this one and must say: Sweden was not famous for Action Movies but this will change if they shoot more like Hamilton. Very nice Cinematography and good casting. I don't see the point in complaining about the plot, the plot is similar to a James Bond or Bourne Story and it works just fine for me. And it did also work for the Swedish audience with about 360'000 admissions two weeks after its opening in Sweden. Looks like they have just waited for this one. If I got it right, then this is the first film out in the trilogy based on the novels by Jan Guillou. So there is a lot to look forward for me. I like it a lot to see when more Swedish productions are aiming at an international audience. We have had this with the Millennium trilogy as well.
The Aggression Scale (2012)
Kevin Home Alone for adults with a Bonnieand Clyde ending
Didn't know much about Steven C. Miller because I'm not so into Horror. But then he makes also something like this film and therefor I like him. Imagine watching "Kevin Home Alone" Rated R. And Kevin is a mixture between MacGyver and Bruce Willis in Die Hard. Nicely played by the about 10 years old Ryan Hartwig, who really isn't speaking much.
Dana Ashbrook played one of the bad guys, he and hes crew sometimes played a little bit "to soft", like in a comedy, so they spoiled the Thriller-feeling a bid. I mean there was a lag of acting between the bad guys and the family, something like:"The Desperate Hours (1955)" was missing. For the Rest I was surprised how good it was. Fabianne Therese is a good casting as well.
13 (2010)
Something to see
Yes it is the same movie like Tzameti (2005) but this time with real actors. Sorry have to say this. I have seen them both, the difference is like day and night. Really a good movie now. I usually don't like the idea that Hollywood steals the plot of a movie like Scorsese's "The Departed". But Géla Babluani was writer and Director of both films! So unlike Scorsese he did not have to copy a great story and bring it to the American Screen. So I'm looking forward to the next Géla Movie, now that he is able to access the money, he needs to bring his movies to a brighter audience. Now that the end of this year is near it's easy to say that this will be one of the top movies of 2010.
