Pretty dark
19 March 2024
I get how good the show is, intense and dark showing the nature of what will do to survive. I was rooting for the family in season one but after a while, seeing how disconnected and unemotional everyone was, I had no one to root for.

I guess I like to see something of myself in the main characters that I can relate to, so I lost interest. I know it's great acting and yes feels very real, I felt like I was trainwrecks waiting to happen. I think a lot of people are tuning in to see someone's whose life is worse so they can feel better, too deep?

Anyways, hats off to Jason Bateman for making a gripping show, you keep seeing the darker side of humanity and wondering "is this really how bad it is?"

Could have been better

Warning: Spoilers
I have seen a lot of reviews and angry fans over the ending to the star wars new trilogy, it is obvious when Rian came on they went way off script and J. J. had to bring the ship back into port in the last movie. The main things that bother me is that there was no explaination for Snoke and the Rise of the Emporer, which could hav easily been explained if they had shown a failed clone of Snoke in a tube near end of movie. This would imply that Snoke was a "version" of Palpatine meant to carry out his plans but not reveal his true nature. The Emporer should have stepped in at end of second movie when he died, to shock us all and set up a cliff hanger.

And also the course of Ben and Rey, i think they should have been different. I think Ben was being pulled towards the light and wouldve followed his master Luke finally and become a Jedi. Rey finally gives in to her evil side as she cannot connect with anyone anymore, feeling this chasm of lonliness. The end battle would have her go full Sith while Ben tried to pull her back, only to sadly have to end her life. This would be risky but would have given us a whole new kind of ending that everyone would be talking about forever.

Not enough satire
10 March 2024
If you're going to do a satire of Bob Ross, make it funny throughout, not get serious and depressing half way through. I like Owen Wilson and thought he could have done a lot more with this premise, the writing may have not been there.

I am a fan of the spoofs and satires of old, I would have liked to see it spoof the character we think of as Ross, how he gets so wrapped up in the nuances of his paintings. Then maybe we see he has lots touch with reality because he finds it too much to deal with. Then as he sees the real world he starts encorporating it into his paintings, until they get chaotic and crazy. Finally someone has to calm him down but the movement towards chaotic painting has already spread to his followers.

Not worth the hype
9 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this being positive but after two hours of nonsense and unnecessary nudity / coitus, i have a lot of trouble understanding how this is nominated and Barbie is not. I love Emma Stone, Mark Ruffalo and Willem Dafoe but this project should have never got greenlit. It's making a staement about what a womans point of view would be in victorian times, just saying whatever she wanted and being blunt, not seeing the value in emotion and in fact bringing the men around her to emotional distress. Where Ruffalo starts out as a playboy and ends up ruined both financially and emotionally is funny but thats it.

Screenplay was written in a bathroom

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why B movies like this get made with no imagination or exposition. As much as I like seeing Ruther Hauer acting, the dialog has to give us something. We are stumbling through the movie much like Joe, never realizing the potential of the "magic" or what is at stake. If you don't know where the hero comes from or what he is fighting for, it's frustrating.

And considering they jump from one dimension to another and end up in boring desert scenes like the backlot of Burning Man, nothing to dazzle us. The bad guys are suits...boring...the group they're fighting for is vague as is their back story or motivation. Made for twenty somethings that can't figure out what to do and are happy waiting on the couch until a pretty girl in a skirt falls in their lap.
