Rampage (2018)
Just great monster entertainment.
What more can I say than The Rock and Jeffrey Dean Morgan fighting kaiju across America. Naomie Harris is great as the geneticist who developed the original technology as a means to save her brother, and she has a real chemistry with Johnson. Malin Akerman plays pure greed so well, and is a delight to see. This is pure entertainment with a definite tongue in cheek as only Dwayne Johnson can do it. The story is damn good and the special effects are top notch. I picked it to play in the background as I gamed online and ended up ignoring the game. The good guys are good and the baddies get their due.
I can fully recommend this movie. It's great fun.
Night Sky (2022)
I enjoyed this except whe I couldn't follow alnong is Spanish.
If you are going to have half of the dialog in Spanish, at least give us sub titles. I had no clue what was being said, so I turned it off. Ok here is filler to reach 150 characters.
The Lincoln Lawyer (2022)
Mickey Haller rocks
I have never seen such perfect casting in an adaptation. Everyone cast is exactly as I pictured them in the books, especially Cisco. This was my favorite LL book, and I am over the moon with how they did this one. I am used to poor adaptations, and this series is anything but poor. It's damn near perfect.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)
An uncut gem from the golden age of uncut gems.
What can you say about this movie? This was the movie that broke all the rules. What do you do when you can't get the rights to Doc Savage? You make your own Doc Savage, of course! This movie introduces us to Doctor Buckaroo Banzai, renaissance man and rock star, who is already an established character in world, and his ever loyal companions. His adversary is Doctor Emilio Lizardo/Lord John Whorfin, who chews up the scenery better than ANYONE has ever done. The movie assumes you have been reading the comics and following the news reports about Buckaroo. And who hasn't? I know I did. The plot is convoluted, the characters are all over the top, and of course, Rawhide survived! I love this thing. I love it so much. Peter Weller, Chris Lloyd and Ellen Barkin are Oscar worthy in this film. And the supporting cast are downright awesome. This is one of the best films of the 1980's, no matter what anyone says. Remember, "No matter where you go, there you are."
Bosch: Book of the Unclaimed Dead (2018)
Possibly the best seson finale ever.
Superb writing, excellent character development, and a satisfying ending. This is probably the best crime drama on television. I have never seen such satisfying writing in my long life. I can't wait for more.
Bosch: Heart Attack (2016)
Heart Attack is heartbreaking.
This episode was hard to watch. As a father, I can only imagine what Irving and his wife were going through. In this current political climate it is important, nay, necessary, to remember our brothers and sisters in blue put their lives on the line every single day for little if no recognition. George was quickly becoming my favorite character in the show, and his sudden death was like a hammer to the chest. This is one of the most impactful episodes of TV I have watched.
Dispatches from Elsewhere: The Boy (2020)
Superb television, and a real emotional rollercoaster.
I had seen several of Jason Segal's works in the past, and enjoyed them. Then I saw Dispatches From Elsewhere. Each episode hit me in the feels, but none more so than "The Boy". I can't even describe the emotion this episode gave me, but I cherish the way it made me feel. I am now a super fan of Mr Segals. He pushed my emotional buttons is just the right way. God bless you sir. I cannot wait to see your next project.
