Zodiac (2007)

Finch Perfect
3 March 2007
Warning: Spoilers
One thing about this film is that it is not your typical serial killer thriller. Nothing like Se7en, so don't go with that expectation. This is a film with facts, a film that educates as well as entertains. One thing this movie did was keep me and most of the people in the theater glued to the screen. Fincher's style is mesmerizing, something that grabs your attention above all else. Another thing he is able to accomplish is atmosphere, the first scene of the movie is the second official Zodiac killing. Fincher creates an atmosphere worthy of an 80s slasher film. The creepy Mustang is menacing enough that we don't need to see the killer, the car and its tinted windows tell us that these kids are doomed. It starts with a bang and then we're dragged into this mystery of facts and obsession. The Graysmith character is by far the most interesting and Downey delivers a brilliant supporting role. Ruffalo's plays his detective role a la Bullitt. The characters work and go hand in hand with the dialogue. All in all I believe that this movie is one of Fincher's best and is not for the dimwitted, do not expect your normal serial killer film. This may have some graphic killings and an especially disturbing scene in which a woman is stabbed several times while tied up. But this is a movie based on facts and delivers them like a book would. I rate it a 8/10.

Masters of Horror: Pelts (2006)

A Haunting Supernatural Giallo(Spoilers)
2 December 2006
Warning: Spoilers
First of all without a doubt this is one of Argento's most disturbing ventures ever. It's bloody, gory, disgusting and very very disturbing. Do not buy or see this if you have a weak stomach, folks. It's only been a few minutes since it ended but I still can't get over the ending where Meat Loaf skins himself and tries to give his suit of flesh to his "girlfriend". That whole scene is probably one of the scariest I've ever seen. Argento has always been a great filmmaker and has made some giallos that really push the limit. This beats them all in my opinion. I think this should be shown to all the rich gals that own fur coats, I guarantee they would burn them immediately and never wear fur ever again. The title Masters Of Horror is absolutely true, this segment really, really horrified me and that isn't easy to do. I recommend this if you like gore and Meat Loaf.

A Great 70s Gangster Flick
1 November 2006
I just recently got Drive-in Classics channel and it was the best decision of my life. Why? Because I get to see rare movies from the genres and eras long forgotten by most. This was one of those movies. Peter Falk stands out most in this movie just like he does in any of his movies. He's a mobster, a ruthless one at that and takes the cake for number one on my list of bad asses. If you ever get a chance to pick this up in a store or see it on TV then watch it and enjoy it. You'll never regret that decision.

For style, Ennio Morricone's great score and Peter Falk. I give this movie 10/10.

Jackie Brown (1997)

An amazingly cool film.

First of all I am one big Tarantino fan always have been. Most people have criticized this movie as being his worst movie. That couldn't be further from the truth. Quentin takes Elmore Leonars novel Rum Punch and turns it into an amazingly cool film. Pam Grier is as foxy as she was in Foxy Brown and Samuel L. Jackson is a really good bad ass. Quentin gives this story is own spin with a great adaptation of the book and outstanding direction. Robert Forster gives a great performance as a bail bonds agent named Max Cherry. His performance actually surprised me considering he wasn't in much before this. The best actor in this film is by far Samuel L. Jackson, his character Ordell is perfect for him. I might even say that he is better in this than in Pulp Fiction. I think this movie is a great, foxy, cool mystery that deserves much more attention then it has received. I suggest this movie to all you Tarantino fans out there.
