Capsized: Blood in the Water (2019)
Disappointing, after watching the documentary-drama.
I have watched this true story from 1982 about the Trashman yacht on the documentary-drama series ''I Shouldn't Be Alive'' on two occasions now, and it is substantially much better than this movie which falls short on the true facts, the actors are disappointing and add little to make this any more than a mediocre movie.
The little changes that were made to the story in the ''Capsized: Blood In The Water'' do nothing for this movie, if anything, just make it less interesting and disappointing when you know what the true facts are.
I was going to give this movie a generous 5/10 rating, but on further consideration decided that a 4/10 rating is more accurate for this review.
Don't waste your time watching this movie, there is very little entertainment value in it, this story in the ''I Shouldn't Be Alive'' series is much more compelling, realistic and factual.
The Proof Is Out There (2021)
Thought provoking investigations with credible experts.
I have only watched a couple of episodes of ''The Proof is Out There'' but already find it a compelling show to watch, the experts who comment on each presentation are credible and the host Tony Harris keeps it interesting and moving at a nice pace.
''The Proof is Out There'' is presented like a Court Jury studying the evidence available and then making a decision on their findings, I like this format as it is not the decision of a single person, and you hear the different views of the experts followed by a summing up by the host Tony Harris, leaving you to form your own opinion after considering all that has been said.
Good to hear that it is continuing to a second season, and I will be happy to spend some time catching up on more episodes, recommend for anyone with a curious and inquiring mind.
Station Six-Sahara (1963)
Deep character study and well worth multiple viewings.
My first viewing of ''Station Six Sahara'' was many years ago and have always rated it it quite highly ever since, as can be expected Carroll Baker looks quite stunning in this movie also great performances from all the cast, interesting male characters playing off against each other, especially the amusing interactions between Ian Bannen and Denholm Elliott.
If you like deep character study ''Station Six Sahara'' is well worth multiple viewings.
Free Fall (2014)
Dramatic story about corporate embezzlement.
Suspenseful thriller about corporate embezzlement with good acting performances from lead actress Sarah Butler and D. B. Sweeney.
I'm surprised that it has such a low rating from other reviewers, as I quite enjoyed this movie, but I guess it comes down to personal preferences and what appeals to one person does not necessarily appeal to another.
Scandal (1989)
Interesting and entertaining movie still holds up well with a great cast.
Although recently, there has been a TV series about this incident, the original movie "Scandal" made in 1989 was a brave expose at the time as it was still a sensitive issue.
After watching the new TV series "The Trial of Christine Keeler" which I also thought was very good, I remembered that I had previously bought a copy of "Scandal" on a VHS cassette many years ago and had rated it very highly, so when I realised that it was now available on Blu-Ray I just had to add this to my collection.
In 1963 I was still at high school and this topic was on the TV news and front pages of the newspapers and magazines, also in the same year was the boxing heavyweight fight between Henry Cooper and Cassius Clay (Muhammad Ali), of course being at an all-boys school this was more the main agenda for discussion for me and my school friends than the government scandal.
This movie "Scandal" still holds up very well today, the quality of the picture and the sound are very good as you would expect from a Blu-Ray disc, the cast is also very good including John Hurt, Joanne Whalley, Ian McKellen and Bridget Fonda playing their parts in a realistic and believable manner.
The story is still very interesting and intriguing on different levels as it follows the lives of people in different strata of social-economic levels and the weaknesses of the human spirit to the temptations of sex, money and power and what some people are willing to risk to fulfil their needs and desires.
I would rate the movie "Scandal" as a solid 9 out of 10 and that is probably because this was part of my life history, so this movie would most probably appeal more to the Baby Boomers.
Detroit (2017)
A Very Gripping Movie With Great Actors And An Edge Of The Seat Story.
Although I was a teenager at this period of time I knew nothing about this incident, that's most probably because I was born in the UK, I wasn't planning to watch this movie but just happened to be watching the TV channel when it came on, and I must say that I almost changed channels during the first 10 minutes as I thought it would not be of interest to me, but I'm glad that I stayed with it because it was a very gripping movie with great actors and an edge of the seat story, which made me wonder halfway through if this was a true story, which was proven to be true at the end of this film, I was happily surprised to see that the film was directed by Kathryn Bigelow and I thought no wonder it was such a good movie, as I really appreciated "The Hurt Locker" I recommend this movie as it shows why good people should always try to speak up and do something when wrongs are committed by anyone and especially by others in powerful positions.
