Hell's Angels (1930)
Plane galore
If you want good English actors across the board, then this movie is not for you. The English speaking actors, while not all bad, are clearly not used to sound acting and takes you out of the movie at times. The German actors however, for some odd reason, are amazing for their time and truly believable for the story being told overall. Even the "bond villain" at the end is great :)
But this movie is not about the actors. Nah fam, this movie is about aerial combat!
Filmed using essentially no obvious special effects, while still showing action and realism superior to movies today, it feels like the creators of the movie got unlimited resources to create it, while not having to abide by any laws or safety rules. When there are fifty fighter aircraft jerking around on screen there really are fifty fighter aircraft jerking around on screen. Truly amazing.
Like all two-hour movies, though, there are stale scenes which are just time filler, so do not be afraid to skip ahead if you're watching it at home, or to sneak in a beer or stronger to the theater if you're watching it at a retro cinema.
Overall, as a dogfighting enthusiast, i give it 8/10 plane. A must-watch for anyone who is tired of todays movie production practises.
Star Wars Rebels (2014)
Its just bad.
Ait so lets keep this basic. All new main characters except for Hera and Kanan are boring and just annoying. Sabine is just overpowered, nuff said about her. The new villains are dumb and unoriginal. All "original" characters like Rex, Ahsoka, grand admiral Thrawn, among many others are just empty shells of their "real" self's. The episode plots are just dumb and doesn't add anything to the story as a whole. The violence and realism of clone wars is gone and now every bad guy is just a video game enemy waiting to die a stupid inevitable death. As a whole this whole show feels like an insult to us clone wars fans. Avoid it like it's the plague.
Alice Through the Looking Glass (1987)
An underrated movie that perfectly displays how a dream works.
This movie is pure magic for someone who likes 1980's animation. It's bad when it needs to be bad and good when it needs to be good. But beyond being an iconic entertaining 1980's animated made for TV movie this film manages to achieve something which not even a lot of big budget movies does. It perfectly displays how a dream works. It jumps from place to place in quick succession without braking the pace of the movie nor interrupting the plot, just like a dream. It also features some common "dream rules", like for example achieving something impossible with just your own imagination. This together with magic and memorable characters in an interesting world really flares up your imagination, especially after you have seen the movie and the memories starts to blur, just like a good dream.
Something which i should mention though is that the quality of the movie varies depending on which dub you are watching. I personally have mainly watched the Swedish dub since i am Swedish and comparing it to the English dub there is a notable difference in quality where the English dub is worse. I think the English dub is one of the main reasons why a lot of people don't like this movie. Another Swedish dub thing i want to point out is that the Swedish dubbing team didn't get a clean copy of the movie and had to dub over the English voice actors. This isn't a huge problem and is barely noticeable for most of the movie but it really shows during the songs as the music disappears when the characters are singing. This forces the voice actors to sing as well as they can to sort of fill in for the lack of music and some songs like the song "Nothing is impossible at all" sounds really good and deep.
