Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Awful!
Please stop giving money to Zak Snyder.
He has proven over and over, that he lacks the necessary creativity and imagination required for a SciFi creator.
This movie is blatantly copying so many other movies and directors that it's hard to keep track of it. Theres the anamorphic lenses of Batman, which don't make any sense in this movie. Then there's the great story of the seven Samurai, which for Snyder isn't enough. He had to add star wars, Warhammer 40k. Predator, jj abrams lens flares, john effing carter , and countless more.
And what puts the cherry on top is this awful CGI he constantly uses. Almost as if he's funneling my Netflix payments through his own CGI company directly into his own pockets.
@Netflix: I am seriously considering cancelling my subscription because of abuse of funds. I am not willing to finance such crap any more.
Heart of Stone (2023)
Gal Gadot is not an actress!
She was interesting (exotic) once, but her attempt to improve her acting don't seem to work. In my humble opinion her acting sucks the life out of every script. Hard to believe that she is still being casted for new roles. Somehow she reminds me of Steven Seagal. Curious if she will have a similar faith as him.
Alia Bhatt wasn't much better. Not sure why the movie needed a protagonist with a distracting Indian accent.
That being said, the movie itself was mediocre at best. The story is very naive and unbelievable. It makes MI6 look like a bunch of amateurs. But I guess that's how Americans like to look down on everybody else.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Subspace Rhapsody (2023)
Wasn't expecting much, but I was blown away.
Really cool to see how this show is following in The Original Series' footsteps, by doing things that are unconventional. It's a great episode, and shows how versatile both writers and actors are. The songs are top-notch musical quality. Someone could expect this from a full feature blockbuster budget musical film, but this was done here for "just" a TV show episode.
That being said, I can't believe that this season has one episode left. But I am happy that the next season has been confirmed. Let's hope striking writers and actors will soon get their demands fulfilled and they can start/continue working on it.
The Consultant: Glass (2023)
Strange
The show suggests that he had his bines made out of pure gold, and we could hear the glass steps on the stairs crackling when he barely made it up to his office. But his office chair seems to handle his weight just fine. This seems very much like a serious plot hole to me.
Apart of that, having met some crazy characters in large firms the show leaves a strange but familiar aftertaste with me. Curious if anyone else is having this impression. Christoph Waltz is a great cast for the role. I am aware that the show will drift into some absurd and unrealistic ending. One which I even might not like.
Nope (2022)
Great Flick!
Reminded me a bit of Tremors, but it's still original. I can recommend it to everybody who doesn't expect flag swinging gun tooting Americans saving the day with their stealth fighters and AR-15s. It also doesn't explain much, so those who need explanation might get left behind.
That being said, I had a lot of fun watching it. The trailer was a it misleading (in a good way).
This Fool (2022)
Made me lauch really hard.
Most comedies are kind of funny, reuse the usual jokes, but nothing more. This Fool surprised me a couple of times and I had to laugh really hard.
I'd like to thank the creators and actors for this show. Looking forward to another season.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
What a boring waste of time
And ehat's with the British English dialect? It's so much distracting that it's outright annoying, and the lack of acting talent of the girl becomes even more visible.
The rest of the movie is just bad writing and directing. And then there's the CGI, which looks very cheap. It is clear to me that everybody involved only did it for the money.
Lightyear (2022)
Very solid and fun movie
Those expecting another Toy Story movie will be disappointed. But this was never promised by anyone. Unfortunately we see this all the time, that super fans fantasize something together and if they didn't guess it right they review bomb it. This needs to stop. I want to be surprised by movies and not read everything about it in internet forums. And I certainly don't want some super fans sitting next to me explaining the whole backstory and apologizing for the movie as if it was ever in their control while I try to enjoy a movie.
That being said, the movie is a solid Pixar movie. The story is fun, and doesn't really have much to do with Toy Story except having the main character loosely based on the Buzz Lightyear toy.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: The Serene Squall (2022)
Was good!
Real Trekkies will know that the show itself has always gone boldly where no one has gone before. Same applies to the transgender villain in this episode. I have to admit that I was slightly distracted by it at first, simply because I am not used to seeing transgender people so prominently on screen. But it made me think and I reminded myself that the original show had the first black woman in a leading role which was controversial for it's time.
That being said, I gave it only an 8 because of the plot which could have been better.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds: Memento Mori (2022)
Das Boot :)
The episode reminded me of submarine battles. So far the best episode. Hope to see the Gorn very soon. And I hope it's not going to be a cliffhanger episode making us wait desperately for Season 2.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)
Awful
After I watched it, I didn't know what this movie was about. Not sure if I will watch the next one. Those wizard visual effects aren't doing it any more without a good story.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
I don't know what the last season was about
Because I regularly felt asleep watching Discovery. It's too much drama for me. I don't believe I will be watching another season. Can't stand the Michael Burnham character any more with all the whispering.
Le loup et le lion (2021)
Ugh!
That's some really bad acting. Can't remember last time when I was turned off from the acting as I was in this movie. What I mean is the main actress. I'd like to understand how she got this gig?
The Man Who Fell to Earth (2022)
Great pilot episode
The episode exceeded my expectations by far. Love the cast, and the over the top acting ist actually fitting. Really looking forward to see the next episode.
That being said, who doesn't like a show that has arrived in 2022 is free to watch the movie as many times as they want. IMO movies will become more of an artform or become part of larger high budget trilogies, while TV-shows are a possibility to develop characters over time and tell complex stories.
Let's face it. Cinema is a dead medium!
Uncharted (2022)
Meh
As someone who played the games, this movie only partially reminded me of Uncharted. Actually Whalberg had the most resemblence with a Uncharted character. I am still giving it 5 points for trying.
Moon Knight (2022)
Great start after the first episode
Like with other TV shows, I will adjust the rating as the show progresses.
This being out of the way, I really like the show so far. I am not familiar with the Moon Knight comic character, therefore I can have a fresh perspective. Unlike others here I don't have an issue with missing profanity or Isaac's British accent. I think both the writers and Isaac are doing a pretty good job. Also the director is dong a great job in visually telling the story.
Really looking forward where this show is going. It has some Venom vibes, just better.
The King's Man (2021)
What a mess!
The movie is a complete mess. They should have left it at the first movie. Every additional part just makes a story never intended to continue, more messy. I won't watch another one. This one got me unhook d from the kings men.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 5: Return of the Mandalorian (2022)
Perfectepisode
Loved every minute of it. Looking forward to the next episode. I have the feeling that thia show with it's slow start is going to converge into aomething epic.
Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018)
Colors are off
I don't know how someone can think it's a good idea to use the washed-out color grading scheme on this movie. I hope someone in the future fixes that.
Apart of the washed out colors, I really liked the movie. I'd love to see more Solo stories.
Invasion (2021)
Great show - Loved it ao far
I love TV shows that don't explain everything and leave, like a good book, enough room for my own cinema in my head. Glad Apple is renewing it for another season. Can't wait to see how it continues.
Pig (2021)
Beautiful
Had to check on IMDB because I couldn't believe, Rob is being played by Cage.
That being said, the movie is simply beautiful. It leaves lots of room for headcinema and ends too quickly. I'd love to know more about Rob's past and what is going to happen to him after the credits roll.
Game of Thrones (2011)
One of the best shows ever!
I'm binge rewatching it and the show is still perfect.
Dr. Death (2021)
Very good show!
I loved the casting!
One thing that the show was lacking was the sociopath part. I would have loved if the show showed more how sociopaths put on their human suits and hide behind their fake emotions. Some of them can even cry on command.
Clarice (2021)
Much better than expected!
Based on many reviews here I was expecting a trainwreck of a TV show.
But I am more than positively surprised. Not only does it continue Clarice's story, but it also tackles issues of racial and transgender discrimination whithout creating the impression that it's forcing those topics on it's viewers.
I am not surprised that many people are turned off since episode 2 reminds us of those patriot militias who stormed the caoitol recently (context: early 2021).
The American Barbecue Showdown (2020)
Getting great vibes!
The most outstanding part of the show is it's positivity and the comradery amongst all competitors. Their joy for each other moving forward and being sad for those who didn't make the cut was amazing.
What I didn't like was the hosts who were almost not present. I'd wish if a pro would host the show in the future. And I would love to see all eliminated competitors being part of the jury in the final episode.
