I saw this movie when it came out in 1998 and thought at the time, "this is the best movie I've ever seen" and that has not changed 20 years later. I love the cinematography, the colors, the music, the actors - it's all amazingly perfect!

What a waste of an opportunity!

Netflix had an opportunity to tell a unique story of people around the world who suffer from real, legitimate diseases. Unfortunately instead of allowing viewers to see the interviews with actual experts, they choose to stigmatize these conditions as psychological. I can only assume this was done as a way to create more drama? But it was at the expense of severely ill patients. The producers could have used this series to create an informative documentary with scientists from Stanford (Dr Ron Davis), Columbia (Dr Mady Hornig) or Cornell (Dr Maureen Hanson).
It's obvious they had an agenda to profit off of the misfortune of patients that had been neglected by mainstream medicine, who were desperate and left to seek out any help they could find with alternative, controversial therapies.
Netflix was negligent in its lack of fact-checking. Lives will be further destroyed by this misrepresentation. This docuseries should be removed from Netflix's content to prevent additional harm to these patients and their disease communities.
