Calibre (2018)
Awesome thrill! Worth the watch
What an incredibly enjoyable movie. It's very rare to find a movie that has no over the top theatrics or special effects but still manages to grip you and hold your attention and keep you in suspense throughout.
It was a refreshing watch and a great overall performance.
In Darkness (2018)
Lacks the thrilling aspect of a thriller
Not sure if I should be disappointed or disgusted at how terrible this movie was. Terribly underwhelming. Sophia as a blind person is about as believable as a toddler feigning illness. And then of course at the end, in yet another twist it's revealed that she actually isn't blind.
The plot had me rolling my eyes throughout with it's randomness. They tried to throw everything in there including a cringey sex scene that came out of absolutely nowhere. Absolutely unnecessary and had me feeling embarrassed for the actors to be honest.
Throughout the movie I was wondering why a woman who has been blind since childhood would have tattoos, and then at the end it is revealed that her blindness was an act. Which serves to reveal more plot holes- if it was all an act then why still act blind and spill the poison when nobody was watching.
This movie tried too hard to be clever which is exasperating. Overall weak performance by all parties involved.
Inxeba (2017)
Lacks substance
This movie left me empty with noting to takeaway from it.
So a bunch of initiates gather up in the mountains for the traditional Xhosa initiation ceremony, then two of the ingcibis (teachers) reveal their homosexual inclinations towards each other. Its revealed this has been going on for years but that's basically it. They get caught, chase the initiate who caught them and presumably kill him and then that's the end.
I was so disappointed as I was misled to believe this delves into the whole tradition, or perhaps I misled myself by following media hype over this movie.
Tracers (2015)
The trailer is as good as it gets
Initially this seemed like an exciting concept, parkour infused robberies. But after probably 20 minutes into it I got bored, it felt like a never ending YouTube parkour tutorial. And it was just downhill from there. It seems Americans cant make movies without adding a random love plot with the inevitable sex scene.
Overall I strongly disliked the movie but that could also be attributed to my repulsion to Taylor Lautner's acting and looks, the guy's face is nauseating. I thought I had recovered from the Twilight torment but I think it's still to soon.
Distorted (2018)
Poorly Executed
What an absolute waste of airtime. This movie was executed as though it was a high school film project. The premise was great but the execution was dismal. Don't get me started on the annoying image flashing and light flickering, that technique is so old and really doesn't add anything except increase my anger and annoyance at this already bad film.
I haven't seen Christina Ricci in a while so perhaps that's why she took this role, John Cussack on the other hand needs to pay anyone he can to have all traces of this film removed from existence to protect his legacy.
