Blue Velvet (1986)
Dark and surreal
I loved the performances by Hopper, Rossellini, Dern, MacLachlan. Not everyone will like this movie, but it you like David Lynch films, you will love this one. The soundtrack is amazing, I don't know who thought about including the song In Dreams by Roy Orbison.. but it was just the perfect choice. I enjoyed every minute of the movie and I could watch over and over, and every time I watch it again, it's like catching a new detail. I don't want to say too much about the film because there are no words to describe what I felt when I watched it, it is an experience you have to see for yourself. I really admire Lynch's imagination, how could he think about writing such a weird and incredible story?
Kirschblüten - Hanami (2008)
A story that touched my deepest feelings
I saw this movie at my local video store and I didn't know anything about it, only rented it because I like cherry blossoms (Don't ask why, I really rented because of the name of the movie). At first I thought the movie was Japanese but when I found out it was German I was kind of surprised and pleased because I like German films. All I can say this movie is extremely melancholic, it deals with grief, and a guilty husband who didn't fulfill his wife's last wish. The scenery, both in Germany and Japan is beautiful. The story moved me, I was sad when the movie ended, and left me with kind of an emptiness, it made me feel like you're alone in the world and I kind of hated the poor man.
Jeepers Creepers (2001)
The scariest creature movie I've seen in a long time
I remember when I saw the trailer of this movie (I think I was watching Coyote Ugly in my grandma house) and the headline "every 23rd spring, for 23 days, it gets to eat" really made me want to watch the movie. So time passed and when I was about 12-13 years old, I got to see it finally. I don't know if it was because I was just a kid but I couldn't sleep alone that night, and for many many nights. It was one of the scariest movies I had seen, I really thought that Jeepers Creepers was gonna come through my window and eat me. His teeth and eyes are so scary. The first movie is the best, the second is okay. I'm looking forward to watching the 3rd. I watched it alone and in the dark, I still remember his ugly face I'm still scared. Good movie.
Ben X (2007)
Beautiful and sad journey through the eyes of a boy with Asperger's
I caught this on TV, and what got my attention was that it involved online gaming, since I'm a gamer, I stayed and watched it thinking it was a fantasy movie. At first I thought it was weird (well, it was different, but in a good way). This movie is beautiful, it has great soundtrack and the actor playing Ben is amazing. There have been many movies about Asperger's syndrome lately, but this gave us a whole new perspective of a boy living in Belgium, hiding behind an online game character. I would love to see it again, but it hasn't been on TV again and I can't find it in Mexico. This is one of my favorite movies lately, you have to watch it there are no words to really describe the feeling of watching it.
American Pie (1999)
This movie defined my generation
I remember when this movie came out and I didn't want to see it.
I thought it was corny and ridiculous. Well I was wrong. It's one of the funniest American teen comedies, and yes.. this movie defined the lives of the teenagers that grew up in the 90s. It's not a deep, heart-breaking story, it is not complicated. It's fun, it makes me laugh every time I see it on TV (which is often) And of course, one of the funniest scenes (and everyone will remember it) is the pie scene, Jason Biggs was the perfect choice for the role, and his father is so hilarious, his bushy eyebrows and his attempts to talk to his son about puberty makes this movie an original one.
