Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Visuals in-between Love story
I really cannot understand the obsession of bollywood w/ love and love stories. I mean, you can have a love story, but it has to be believable and the characters have to take a journey together to reach that pinnacle called "love".
But here, the director - Ayan Mukerji has taken his audience for granted and forced and shoved down our throats, the "love" between Shiva (Ranbir) & Isha (Alia). The repeated "I love you"s, the nagging name-calling, reasonless longing of each other, and the many many hugs, just don't add up-to the feel and emotion of the plot.
The director could've made the movie even w/o love with some other concept, or maybe, mature the characters enough to show their love and make it more believable.
This immature try on a love story doesn't slap the audience with some emotion every 10-15 minutes. I was able to sit through this movie because of Shah Rukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Akkineni Nagarjuna & visuals (I could see that the production was really high quality), otherwise, the movie doesn't have anything to its name.
I really hope they at least break-even from their est. Budget of Rs. 410,00,00,000 (410 Cr), because it breaks my heart to see so much money go into drain like this.
But apart from giving a heavy dosage of cringe and headache, I also was pretty hooked when there were some elements of action in the movie. The movie did leave a gate open to the next part "Dev", but I don't know whether I'm really that interested to watch the movie, unless the director changes and makes this cringefest of character development into a mature one.
Bollywood has to understand this really fast and really well now that, the Indian audience won't accept this immature development of a relationship between humans. Write better scripts, that's it!
I do give it 4/10 because of the production quality, visuals (3D is really good), the action sequences, and the roles played by SRK, BigB & Nag.
Shamshera (2022)
I got a splitting headache after watching this movie
Huuuhhh, where should I even start?
The characters, the story, the screenplay, the direction, or the horrible music? It's actually unbearable to watch.
There's no character depth, no connect with any character. In-between the movie, a character known as "Pitambar". He dies in the hands of "Shuddh Singh" and there's ruse by the director to get a hang of the audience and get their favour. But the scene felt so empty, because no one can make a connect with the character of "Pitambar". He literally says one dialogue in the movie, and that's it. How's the audience supposed to feel or the character?
The cause for the love with a loser-esque son of Shamshera, named "billa", seems so unrealistic. Cannot ever relate to why this plot was even there. It felt so unnatural to see this plot, and also the character played by Vaani Kaapor.
LESSON 1: When there's no emotional connect with a character, no one cares about that character.
Coming to the next part: Story. It was absolutely horrible, this was one of the main parts why I got a headache. The story has an undertone of the Hindu religion's caste system where the upper-caste have always been an evil force which just has always kept the lower-class under their shoes. I really think that this whole situation is completely blown, over-proportionately. No one will accept (especially the Indian audience) this blatant undertone of a story where you're showing a caste as villainous and showing the other as downright trodden. When the truth is completely different.
LESSON 2: Don't ever, try and hurt the sentiments of any section of the society.
The showstopper is the Music of this film. It doesn't elevate any scenes at all. There's no scene where I felt the music was amazing and helped elevate the scene. Everything was generic, and felt like I was watching a recycled track. Same kind of beats I've listened to maybe over a 100 times, same melody, etc. There was no catchiness anywhere. I simply don't understand how can someone not care about their music?
LESSON 3: Music has to be spot-on. People have to be hooked onto the screen for at least when the music is on.
Finally, I'd want to say that I wanted so many times to stop watching this movie, but I kept on, trying to see if there's some amazing plot in the making. But no, it was extremely disappointing to watch the plot uncover.
The fact that I was almost always trying to stop watching the movie like every 20 minutes, means that the screenplay was too boring. I didn't eel anything for the first 40-50 minutes of the movie.
And also, there are some really cheap-crap scenes which I never would want anyone to watch.
Please don't watch this movie. Even giving your time to watch it, is a mistake, since your time is more valuable than this crap of garbage, called "Shamshera".
Son of India (2022)
An Epic Piece of Garbage. 0 Stars
I'm not sure why Mohan Babu is still acting. He should stop making movies altogether. After watching this movie, I realised why it got its deposits seized on the opening weekend itself.
Fun fact is, the actors are only visible towards the end of the movie. Throughout the movies, since Mohan Babu (Actor and the Producer) couldn't have paid the full remuneration of these actors. He put other actors, whom he blurred through, in the entire movie. During the end, their faces were visible, since he could only pay for them for those many minutes of their performance.
It's such a disingenuous attempt on making a movie. Such apostasy in movie making. I can't stand their entire family, the "Manchu" family. Everyone in this Manchu family should realise that they don't know how to act, and stop making movies.
Whole-heartedly, I give this movie a 0/10. If I could give a rating in negative, I would've.
Please don't waste your precious time on this movie. I beg you.
Castlevania (2017)
Probably one of the best Animation Series of All Time
There are 4 seasons all of which have captivated and captured me to the screen in many ways making me stick through its beautiful and amazing story.
The story and the plot revolves around how 3 people, from different perspectives of life, come together to save people and unite in face of many woes and evil.
It's a masterpiece in all its glory, for all the Anime viewers, not only that, for all the serious cinema viewers, casual viewers, everyone will find something amazing about the characters in Castlevania and the way the story is unravelled.
The fights, character evolution, work of fiction, sound, animation, everything about this series is absolutely top notch and has delivered the entertainment and the satisfaction the viewers of this series wanted.
The cast and crew for this amazing series has done a wonderful job, especially the voice actors were realistic in their approach to make the characters lifelike and is absolutely spot-on.
There are intentionally confusing parts about the entire series, but the director does an amazing job into steering the story and the screenplay just into a right place so the viewers just know whatever it is, that's going on. Just enough, enough to hold on and connect with the characters and the story.
Ultimately, the entire series is a beautiful watch and should be remembered as one of the best animated series in the upcoming future.
I'm giving this a 10/10 for the sheer brilliance, Castlevania is.
Mirzapur (2018)
REAL . GORE . RAW . BLOODY . INTENSE . STRONGLY RECOMMENDED TO WATCH.
The intensity shown in every episode is unparalleled to any other show out there. Every dialogue/monologue, scene and character is carefully thought of. Karan Anshuman & Puneet Krishna did a great job with the script, it's so unpredictable as to what happens with every episode.
I'm reviewing this title late because I wanted to see how Season 2 pans out. And it doesn't disappoint. Where Season 1 makes you pine over Season 2 leaving you with a cliffhanger. Season 2 picks up right where Season 1 got left off and unravels as a pure and simple revenge story with a lot of new characters being introduced to the show.
It's an unapologetic show for its kind. There's no other that even comes close to this violence, rawness, greed & gore.
Every character in the show has a nice curve to them where they're shown developing throughout the show as they make a decision that affects them permanently.
Lastly, of course the score by John Stewart Eduri just gives that required oomphf to each episode.
Overall Rating: 10/10
Joker (2019)
Simply Brilliant
The whole movie, starting from the very first scene, connects to you deeply. It is a rare movie, I'd say, these kind of movies are made once in a century. It has all kinds of emotions, lows and highs, ups and downs, everything. The way they connect the story between Arthur Fleck (early Joker) & kid Bruce Wayne (Batman in future) made so much sense and had so much meaning to it. The script, story, screenplay, direction, everything in the movie was on point. The Music Director - Hildur Guðnadóttir completely nailed the BGM.
I don't think we can find any fault in the movie, because there was not even one single actor who acted a bit off. Everything in this movie, was simply, perfect.
Hence, Simply Brilliant.

Love Story That Needs To Be Watched
Such stories are hard to come by. I don't think there could be anyone who watched the movie and didn't drop a tear. That's how good the movie was.
I don't even have words to describe such a beautiful movie. Just watch the movie. That's all I can say about this movie.
Vada Chennai (2018)
The story, plot, screenplay, writing, everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is ON POINT.
What can I say?
The Tamil Industry knows how to make Movies. They make Genuine, Hard-hitting, Powerful movies.
The story, plot, screenplay, writing, everything, I mean EVERYTHING, is ON POINT.
Even the Music, they nailed. I can still remember the BGM, even after so many days of watching the movie.
I think the Director Vetrimaaran, did a tremendous job in directing Dhanush and all the other actors equally well. All the actors played their parts brilliantly. I couldn't find even a single scene which was boring. Every scene was crisp, and it was there for a reason. The movie is extremely tight in every aspect.
I would definitely re-watch this film again, from time to time.
Definitely a worthy watch.
Rating: 10/10
PS: Now I'm interested in watching more films directed/written by Vetrimaaran.
2.0 (2018)
1 star for 3D, 1 star for VFX & 1 star for Music.
The whole plot from beginning to the ending was so underwhelming. The movie should only be watched in the theater in 3D for just the effects and the sound, that is it. Otherwise, this movie is a joke. Outright joke.
Enthiran (Robot) was wayyyyyyy better than this piece of scrap.
How does Shankar take Rs.550 Cr and drain it down the drain like this? WTH is wrong with Shankar? How did he make a movie on an unproven and false rumor about birds dying due to cell tower radiation? Why didn't he, for once, TALK to a Scientist before starting of with this project? Why Shankar, why?
"This is how Shankar wasted Rs.550 Cr", that should be the Title of the movie. At least, they could've released the trailer and could've told us that this movie is a parody of some sort, then it would've been more interesting to watch.
Anyways, Birds dying due to unproven rumors and the power of aura doesn't make sense to me. I wasted my time, so please, you don't waste yours.
Gold (2018)
Only movie in which I stood for the National Anthem twice in the movie theater. TBH, this is a good movie.
This movie had everything: Great music, great actors, great direction, great screenplay, great everything.
The character of Himmat Singh's character played by Sunny Kaushal was the absolute tipping point because of which this movie garnered a great ending. The ending match had almost everyone on their feet. Even a non-Indian would see this movie and start chanting "Bharat mata ki jai" after the movie ends, because that's how good the ending was.
Even though the movie ended with a punch, it was all damn predictable.
That's the reason, I would give this one a 7/10. I liked this movie.
Geetha Govindam (2018)
After making a good film like Arjun Reddy, this one seems to be nowhere nearly good enough.
Vijay Sai Devarakonda (VSD) in an interview already mentioned that he wasn't keen on acting in this project. He admitted that he couldn't find the script "interesting enough". But he took one for the team and now he has a commercially hit movie with poor story/plot & great music in his resume.
The whole movie was predictable from the beginning as almost all the Telugu love stories are. I purely watched the movie due to the hype, and it disappointed me to the core. I didn't expect VSD to pick such a poor script in the first place.
The movie tried to give a message (as every Telugu movie forces the audience to) of respecting women and quite honestly, almost everyone living through this age knows that.
Also, the movie was dragged a little more than necessary, as there were many places/opportunities for the male lead to explain why he did what he did, and why he was getting into situations he shouldn't. The male lead was portraying an idiot in front of the female lead, but the female lead gets to know about the male lead's greatness towards the end. This wouldn't have been great, if the male lead clarified all the mishappenings that followed throughout the movie when they occurred.
Summary:
Decent male/female lead performance, great music, decent direction, decent screenplay, decent script & an extremely poor story.
Rating: 1+1/10 (+1 star for music).
Kaala (2018)
It seems that the movie is going somewhere but, trust me, it doesn't. In short, DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.
It is better to just watch the trailer and then watch the post credits of the movie. Quite honestly, the movie is unwatchable. It seems like the movie is going somewhere, but no, it isn't.
The story is incredibly dumb. The direction was meh. Huma Qureshi was unnecessary in this movie.
Nana Patekar & Rajnikanth acted their parts, but I do say that there were no parts to properly begin with. We can briefly say that Nana Patekar & Rajnikanth just said their dialogues well and acted accordingly. That is it. Nothing more. Nothing less.
The whole movie was stretched too long, wasting the time of the audience.
There's a brief message in the movie about not disrespecting the people who live in slums, but there's no need of a commercial movie for that. This should've been a documentary, that would've made it a better film.
It doesn't live up to its expectations.
People expect a better film from Rajni Sir.
Gayatri (2018)
After watching this movie, instead of scratching my head, I started scratching my balls.
Reasons to watch this movie: None.
Reasons to NOT watch this movie: Mohan Babu's Over-Action, Too much Mohan Babu (it feels like a movie to just boost his idiotic ego), Vishnu (seriously, when will he learn how to act?), horrible direction (every other minute, there's some stupid thing happening, which is absolutely unbelievable/unnecessary), horrible dialogues (actually, the film just had Mohan Babu's monologues. His hunger for screen space is extremely evident), etc. There are too many reasons that I won't list, because it's just a waste of time.
Honestly speaking, I just watched about the first 36 minutes, and I couldn't go on.
I still watched it for 36 minutes, because I wanted to keep my mind open, and try and think that there's at least one frame in the movie which might be decent. But no, there wasn't even a single frame in the movie which was decent. Hats off to the director to make such a horrendous movie.
My humble message to Manchu family (except Manchu Manoj):
Learn how to ACT, first. Start reading good scripts/stories. Be professional in your approach to movie making. Don't make fun of your own family, stop the self-praising, instead, let others see your work and then let them appreciate your work. If your work is truly a genuine masterpiece, you will be appreciated for the work.
In the end, I just want to say this -- "Don't watch this movie. Period."
