Singularity (2017)
A must pass
This film is really one of the worst I've ever seen. What a waste of time!
Invincible (2001)
surprisingly moving film
This was a surprisingly moving film, in spite of some really bad acting. Juko Ahola, who is apparently a well-known Polish body builder, plays the role of a Jewish strongman in pre-WW II Poland. After he defeats the circus strongman, he is noticed by a German entertainer who wants to include him in the show. He agrees, and goes along with the act playing a Teutonic type which gets all the Nazi's excited. The most interesting and best acted role is played by Tim Rice as the owner of the Palace and medium and Nazi sympathizer. Whether this part of the story is true or not, it is the most interesting part. I won't reveal the plot here, but it was a surprise to me. The story is based on a a true character, and ends on a down note. Still, I would recommend it.
Thirteen Conversations About One Thing (2001)
Worth watching. A sleeper for sure.
I record films on my DVR from IFC (Independent Film Channel) and usually have 10 or more films recorded at any time. Based on the brief review provided and my mood, I'll pick a film. I did so with this movie a few days ago. I never heard of it, and I was very pleasantly surprised. What initially attracted was the all-star cast: three of my favorites are Alan Arkin, John Tuturro, and Amy Irving. I can't remember the last time I saw Alan Arkin in a film. For me, he stole the film. His character was sympathetic and hateful at the same time. Ultimately, you find he has his heart in the right place. The film weaves separate stories about people whose lives intertwine in random ways. Alan Arkin: a frustrated middle manager in an insurance firm, John Tuturro: a cold hearted college professor, Matthew McConahay: a cocky attorney with the DA's office, and ? a positive young woman who earns her living cleaning houses. The question is: what is the "one thing" these conversations are about? I would say they're about guilt, but that doesn't fit every case. Give it a shot. You won't be disappointed.
