Eternals (2021)
Interesting conflict, cool effects
This one got a lot of hate and overall negative reviews, but I ended up actually liking this one. Even watched it again, something I rarely do, so that says something.
In a movie of 10 heroes it's probably impossible to develop all the characters, so that's not something I really expected. They did enough for Sersei and Ikaris though, which are the main characters, so I think it's ok!
I really like the whole Storyline (keeping it spoiler free here) and the conflict between the parties was relatable for me. The whole thing was very dark and I loved it.
CGI and effects where great too, especially the flying scenes with Ikaris.
Dota: Dragon's Blood (2021)
Great animations but weak story
From a technical standpoint the series is great (Animation / Sound), but the story is just all over the place in a desperate attempt to introduce as many DOTA-Game-heroes as possible.
It's also hard to follow if you don't binge it, because of like 20 different characters and location change every few minutes.
Also there is so much forced drama it almost feels like you are watching greys anatomy or something.
I am dissapointed.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Mixed bag
Mixed bag, production value is great but there is a lot of deviation from the books that do more harm than good. I understand that the writers want to create something unique and new to some degree, but when you make a TV-series out of one of the most famous fantasy series ever you could "stick to the script" a bit more - you know, since the source is just awesome.
Pacing is a bit slow and scenes are drawn out and at times even downright weird - like the.warder funeral. They thump their chests, that was already sort of ridiculous - but Lan SHOUTING three times like his first-born child was just killed right in front of him was just over the top and laughable. It's SUPER off-character for someone described in the book as "carved from stone" - and even if weren't: the scene is so unbelievable cringy and wrong. Let's not forget Lans history, even portrait in the series: his family was killed in front of him and he barely survived. He grew up in the borderlands, basically a war zone and was trained to fight and kill since he was a child. Then he became a warder and that's not a peaceful job either. He has seen so much death and pain and that made him hard and strong. The whole scene is just not fitting for his character and I honestly don't understand how anyone would write it like that.
There is a good amount of heart break in the book - maybe use some of that to fill the audiences craving for drama? Or at least make it believable. It's fantasy and people are willing to believe a lot anyway - just let characters have different personalities and let them stay in their character PLEASE.
Lowering my rating to 3 after the final episodes. God, what terrible writing - it hurts ...
Single All the Way (2021)
Do they think the audience is dump?
Spoilers ahead.
The film follows the common rom-com recipe of a Single searching for someone and dating the wrong person, only to find out that the right one was at his/her side all along. Nothing bad with that, in a way that's exactly what you expect from a rom-com - just a feelgood movie with no real surprises.
Unfortunately they made the story absolutely ridiculous and unbelievable because the "right one" was this time more than just a good (or even best) friend - now they actually lived together for 8 years already and he is pretty much a family member at this point! Yet still they never realized some sort of chemistry there? In 8 YEARS of seeing each other every single day, spending holidays and vacations together? Yep, sounds about right..
Also do you know how normally in rom-coms they build some chemistry between the characters and make you realize they love each other in a more or less subtle way - you know - through ACTING? Well, the movie still does that a little bit, but they must have thought the audience is to stupid to get it or something.. Because now there are like 7 super-cringey scenes where someone tells someone (and the audience) how they are perfect for each other and how crazy it is that they don't see that. Such weird scenes. If i had to summarize the movie with one word it would be "cringe".
By the way: doesn't the "com" in rom-com stand for something like comedy? Never laughed or even smiled during this whole movie :(
A bit sad to give such a harsh review.. But the movie was absolutely terrible in my opinion.
Archer: Danger Island: A Discovery (2018)
Unwatchable for native german speekers
I know Germans have terrible accents and it's okay to bring that into the show. But it's so unbelievably cringy when Cyril speaks German - he doesn't even sound close to a native german and it sounds just so stupid and makes his whole character completely unbelievable.
Why? Just let him speak English with a German accent and it would be fine, but it you want to sell someone as a German maybe get a damn voice actor who actually speaks German. Or take some time for the voices and train the voice actor better.
Borderline unwatchable if you are a German native speaker!! So irritating and wrong.
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Really Bad
I know it's a Tarantino movie, but these ratings here are unreal. The film has no real storyline and is like an assortment of random scenes, up until the last 15 minutes.
The worst movie i've seen this year, Tarantino or not
The Dark (2018)
unbearable
If you are into watching like 5 minutes of sad-stares then you might enjoy that. Otherwise I found this to be utter crap.
Now you might say that that's just my isolated opinion, but it's actually not. When the film started there were about 15-ish people in the audience. At the end we were 3! All others left at some point. Now just imagine HOW bad a film would have to be for you leaving a movie you paid good money for and I think you get the idea.
For me personally that was actually the worst movie I have ever seen, no kidding! Soo slow paced, bad writing, unrelatable one-dimensional characters, outright stupid ending.
D O N T watch it. I just registered to IMDb to warn you, so don't let it be in vain..
