Deadloch (2023– )

Delivers on all fronts

This comedy-drama successfully sets up a mystery that is harder to guess than some of the mystery dramas that take themselves more seriously (thinking specifically of Savage River, where I guessed the murderer by episode 2). The scripts are spot on with McCartney and McLennan's trade mark acerbic tone. All of this is delivered with a wonderous ensemble of standup comedians and actors. Every character encaptulates a different nuance of the 'ocker'-condition which we Australians find ourselves displaying in some manner, no matter how we found ourselves here. Watch this! Deadlock is a new level of lampooning, which doesn't disappoint.

Wildside (1997–1999)

Australian TV at its best

I saw this show fifteen years after the fact, and it still feels like it is before its time. Many of the issues explored are still unresolved in our current society, and some have become worse.

The performances are amazing and feature a who's who of Australian talent from yesteryear and the years that followed.

It is cinematic and gritty, and holds up against any of the modern productions currently available to watch. If you have the time, I can't recommend enough that you should watch this.
