LOLA (2022)
Best interpretation of a common sci-fi theme
The main theme of this film is not original, Philip K Dick had created a masterpiece with this what-if story. But the way it's presented in such a personal way, with so much great visual poetry put this one on my top 50 sci-fi movies ever list. Perfect speed and perfect length for this simple story. A must see for all sci-fi fans out there.
We all have the thought "if I knew what would happen, I would be done things differently" and this film is a stark warning to drop all of those thoughts since we actually have no clue whether with that little action to make our lives better we would have killed the best minds of our time or started a war.
Angie Tribeca (2016)
Best absurd comedy since Police Squad
For some years it seemed like absurd comedy was gone for good but here it returns with a vengeance. Since the days of Police Squad, Naked Gun, Airplane and Top Secret, this is the best comedy of this genre. The density of satire, puns and absurdity is even higher than its predecessors and each episode is a hilarious watch from beginning to end. If you are into this sort of comedy you will love it, if not you will most likely be bored and perhaps hate it.
Chingisiin huuhduud (2017)
A feast of the horse breeding Mongolian culture
This is a film on horses, horse riding, horse racing and a whole culture around these in the steppes of Mongolia. Breath-taking scenery accompanies the story of a boy growing up riding horses. I find the simple story quite relatable and each minute enjoyable. The main downside of the film is the whole part in English which doesn't seem necessary for the plot and looks rather pretentious. The editing is also choppy at times but overall it is one of the best films on Mongolian culture.
A Primeira Tentação de Cristo (2019)
10-Stars for courage to expose religious dogmas
Although this is just mediocre as a comedy film, it's really great that we still have these sort of films which is critical of our religious dogmas. Just the other reviews here are enough to show that we need much more movies like this one and I applaud the makers for their courage to speak about the unspeakable, touch the untouchable and make fun of which is already absurd when one thinks about it.
