Rubber's Lover (1996)
A Shinya Tsukamoto-esquire film
Much of this movie has the feel of a Tsukamoto (Tetsuo,Vital,A Snake of June) film, but the differences in story and plot have great distinctions. To save time and for the sake of your interest I will not re-summarize the film, but tell you what to expect. This film is almost as vivid and has as many common traits as Tetsuo, though with a different theme. For all of my friends, the sheer amount of screaming was unbearable, but it really is necessary. Effects weren't flashy, but they suited well. Acting was fantastic (only a real actor will wear one of those rubber suits). Overall, a great movie that will certainly make you perceive many things in a new way from now on, which I think is a goal that more films should strive to achieve. Not for the faint of heart, so watch at your own risk. If you enjoyed Rubber, you may like 964 Pinocchio, also by Shozin Fukui.
Tetsuo (1989)
fantastic and original piece of film
This is, to me, a groundbreaking movie in cinematography, stop motion, and in cases in movie music. The previous comments fill you in on the story and whatnot, so to the reader who is wondering if he/she should give this flick a shot - get it; but stay open and try not to set any expectations to an unreachable level in lighting or acting for example. I personally love this movie, but friends think it is too strange for them. What you like should be more important than a friend or stranger's opinion. If you have read up on this film and want to experience Tetsuo, I say go for it - just know what you are getting into.
Han shan fei hu (1982)
bizarre and campy movie
Now, in all honesty, I gave this movie 4 out of 10 stars because of the sheer camp factor and absurdity of this movie. I've seen many martial arts movies of questionable taste and unthinkable content, but this one sets a bar or two. Fight scenes are surprisingly cool and the costumes and makeup are just too funny, almost like they tried to make it look as hilarious as possible. Excuse my vagueness on this movie, but you have to see it to really understand how I feel about it. Think Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on crack - honestly, it's that weird. In another note, it is also the first time I have ever seen a Chinese Hulk. Get this movie.
