P-Valley (2020)
May look superficially fun but there is a lot of depth!
It's easy to look at the premise of this show and think it's just superficial fun but there is a lot of depth here. The writers have taken a Black southern enclave and built this world of characters with so much heart and nuance. Can't wait for more!
The Way You Look Tonight (2019)
It's not perfect.
It's not perfect: The script is a bit weak and there are dull moments but something made me stick around. I think it was mostly the lead and some of the other supporting actors who were impressive even for relatively unknown actors. I also really appreciated how the writer approached the concept. I was a bit weary that it was going to be an interesting idea fleshed out in an uninteresting way but it was interesting.
Cellular (2004)
It's bad...but in a fun way!
Rewatching this movie in 2022, it's now more apparent that this is a bad movie. Most movies, especially action movies, require suspension of belief but this movie went from 0 to absurd very early. Nevertheless, it's really fun and if you squint a little, it almost feels like an homage to 90's action movies with a "modern twist". Plus, it's a interesting cast.
Kimi (2022)
Entertaining!
Kimi was fun! A nice little modern twist on the Rear Window trope with an amazing score. The 3rd act was highly unbelievable but I'm glad it played out how it did and I was super entertained especially at the climax. If you're looking for a entertaining little thriller that you don't have to think too hard about, this is it.
Run the World: What a Co-inky-dick (2021)
Finding it's groove!
This episode was the best of the first three. I was skeptic with the first two episodes but this episode showed the true potential of the show...I'll definitely keep watching to see where it leads.
Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)
Cliche but...book is leagues better
It's funny because I actually first read the book this is based on when I heard that Taylor Sheridan was making this move because the plot piqued my interest, and I know Sheridan has a way of making amazing movies where the setting and scenery are used in such as thoughtful and dynamic way. I wound up loving the book very much. It was very thrilling while also having a lot of heart. I know movie adaptations aren't always perfect but to me, this movie had a lot of potential and it really missed the mark and didn't capture the heart nor thrill that made the book so great. Instead, what you're left here with is an okay action movie. Nothing more, nothing less.
Lost Girls (2020)
The editing was atrocious.
The editing was so bad, I'm honestly at a loss. I feel like I missed huge chunks of the movie that weren't there. I've never seen a movie so poorly edited.
Fear of Rain (2021)
I actually enjoyed this.
I actually enjoyed this for what it was...it was exactly what you would expect and it was pretty well acted I think. I wouldn't categorize this as a thriller though, more so a drama. And the third act felt rushed and could have been better.
